GENERAL SUMMARY Salary: $10.26/hr.
To perform the procedures involved in the physical processing of books and other materials; and to perform a variety of tasks involved in the arrangement and order of library materials in the general maintenance and upkeep of the library; and to attend to a variety of other tasks as assigned. General supervision is provided by the Librarian or Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES All behaviors comply with the Code of Conduct & Rules of Behavior outlined in Chapter 8 of the General Government Policies and Procedures Manual. Special Projects- This may include being asked to help with special programs and library material management, including clearing returned or unused items, shifting, arranging, and shelving by numerical system. Staff Support- Work as a cooperative and supportive member of the library team to provide the best possible customer service to the public. Drive to and from destinations as assigned by supervisor. When working in Administration/Technical Services:
Perform tasks involved in the physical processing and filing of library materials for both public and in-house use, including stamping, adding RFID tags, and attaching book covers. May assist the Friends of the Mesquite Public Library in the setup procedures for book sales, including transporting donated items from the Branch Library. Maintain the donation area and the delivery area at the Main Library. When working in Public Services:
Assist in completing inventory. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Repair books with broken binding or ripped pages. May answer questions and provide information to patrons donating materials to the library. May collect, sort and distribute incoming and outgoing City and departmental mail, books and other materials. May assist with advertising library activities. May assist in setting up for library programs; move furniture. Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION
High School Diploma or GED.
EXPERIENCE
No experience required.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Possession of a valid driver's license. WORK SCHEDULE Must work a 25-hour weekly schedule. Could work Monday - Friday 10am - 3pm or 11am - 4pm. *Some Saturdays required for Special Events. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT Part Time and Seasonal Employees:
Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS): All employees appointed to positions designated to work 1,000 hours or more per year must participate in TMRS. TMRS is a qualified tax-deferred retirement plan under Section 401 of the IRS. Seven (7) percent of gross earnings are deducted each payroll as a pre-tax deduction and deposited into the member account. When an employee becomes vested and retires, the City provides 2-to-1 matching contributions.
Contribution to Social Security Administration is mandatory at a current rate of 6.2%. 01
