Aspirus Wausau Hospital in Wausau, WI is seeking a Polysomnographic Technologist to join our Regional Sleep Disorders team!
This is a technical/diagnostic position with primary responsibility for the daily operation of the sleep disorders diagnostic laboratory and quality assurance data. Provides care to adolescent, adult and geriatric patients, and can interpret patient information and understand treatment needs depending on the age of the patients under care.
HOURS: Full-Time or 1.0 FTE, 80 hours every pay period. Monday – Friday day shift. This position will work primarily out of Wausau but may need to travel to other locations as needed.
Experience/Qualifications
Knowledge of sleep disorders and testing normally acquired through completion of an Associate Degree of Science from an AMA approved school of Respiratory Care and/or completion of an associate degree of Electroneurodiagnostics
Bachelor’s degree in respiratory care, Polysomnography or Biological Sciences beneficial.
Two years’ experience as a Polysomnographic Technologist or One year experience in respiratory care
Current BLS certification or obtained within 90 days of hire
Required Licensure
Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist-Sleep Disorders (RRT-SDS)
Additional Skills Required
Possesses knowledge of the general aspects of pharmacology, drug effects on the nervous system, depressants and stimulants, drugs that influence metabolic functions, and drugs that affect the respiratory system and sleep.
Possesses knowledge of emergency management and assessment, knowledge and application of CPR and emergency equipment, and assessment and management of acute care problems, electrical hazards, and safety.
Possesses knowledge of infection control including terminology, aseptic techniques, nosocomial infections, hospital infection control procedures, cleaning, disinfecting, sterilization techniques, sterilization equipment theory and operation, culturing and monitoring techniques.
Possesses knowledge of general anatomy, central nervous system, musculo-skeletal, pulmonary, heart and circulation.
Possesses knowledge of pathology including general body response to disease, differential diagnosis and treatment, upper airway disorders, nosology of sleep disorders, disorders of the lungs and cardiovascular system, nervous system disorders, endocrine and metabolic disorders, and disorders due to physical agents.
Possesses advanced knowledge of normal human sleep terminology, electrophysiology, ontogeny, circadian rhythmic aspects and biological functions.
Possesses advanced knowledge of basic electrophysiology and electronics including amplifiers, filters, AC/DC circuits, chart recorders, volume conductor theory, transducer operations, generation of bio-potentials, magnetic tape recording of data, electronic manipulation, and transformation of data.
Possesses advanced knowledge of conventional data analysis techniques including inferential and description statistics, tests of significance, sleep stage scoring, graphic displays of sleep data and departmental reporting formats.
Possesses knowledge of institutional personnel and general administrative policies and procedures.
