SUMMARY Plans, coordinates, and supervises the cataloging and technical services of the library. Performs technical and clerical work in technical services, including cataloging, classification, and maintenance of the collection; assists and participates in the upgrading and maintenance of integrated library systems (ILS). ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Supervises and schedules assigned library staff. Oversees and plans the work of library staff. Supervises, trains, and evaluates all staff assigned to section, and other personnel and volunteers as assigned. Reviews and resolves personnel problems within section as much as possible. Supervises and assists in maintaining the accuracy of the online catalog. Catalogs library items, adds, or deletes items to ILS. Electronically catalogs and classifies library books and other materials. Accesses and utilizes OCLC (Online Computer Library Center) database to search appropriate records, download records, remove holdings, maintaining accurate holdings. Trains and provides direction to tech services staff in the functions of the unit or other areas of specialty, such as book ordering, collection development, book repair, as assigned. Performs work following general library protocols and procedures. Plans and organizes workload effectively, with accuracy and attention to detail, according to library schedule or standard routines. Troubleshoots computer software and hardware problems in a Windows based environment. Maintains section’s equipment (computer, printer, copier, typewriter, barcode duplicator) including troubleshooting and performing basic maintenance procedures as needed. Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Three to five years of progressively responsible library experience, and professional/practical library experience in public, academic, or research library; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Able to utilize traditional and new library systems and techniques; knowledge of cataloging practices and procedures and knowledge of library automated systems. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Skilled in cataloging, classification, and library materials processing. Computer and library systems training and experience. Knowledge of standard library practices, procedures, and technologies. Willingness to learn new software programs as needed. Capable of learning new software programs and technologies as needed. Basic knowledge of standard office procedures and equipment. Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Ability and willingness to display a high level of respect and professionalism in the workplace at all times. Self-motivated with solid organizational skills. Ability to exercise ethical decision making and good judgment. Ability and willingness to adapt to changing organizational needs, conditions, and work responsibilities, including flexibility to try new ideas and methods. Ability to multi-task, work within established deadlines, and prioritize daily workload. Ability to maintain confidential information and exercise considerable tact in the handling of sensitive matters. Ability and willingness to successfully complete any necessary training. Ability to transport self to off-site meetings, conferences, and trainings. Ability to perform all essential functions of the position.
