Role Overview The Head of Communications will lead Grove Partners’ media strategy and execution across a diverse portfolio of clients and campaigns. This individual will be responsible for shaping narratives, cultivating and leveraging national media relationships, securing high-impact earned media, and advising clients and internal teams on media engagement in both proactive and reactive contexts.

This is a senior, hands‑on role for a strategic thinker and experienced media operator who thrives in fast‑paced, high-pressure environments and understands how media fits into broader campaign strategy.

Key Responsibilities Media Strategy & Leadership

Develop and oversee comprehensive media relations strategies for client campaigns aligned with broader project, public affairs, and reputational goals.

Serve as counselor to clients on media positioning, message development, and strategy.

Anticipate media risks and opportunities, advising on timing, framing, and audience targeting.

Earned Media & Content Placement

Secure consistent, high-quality earned media coverage in national, regional, and trade outlets.

Lead placement of op‑eds, byline articles, letters to the editor, and other thought leadership content on behalf of clients and principals.

Identify and package compelling story angles that resonate with reporters, editors, and opinion desks.

Draft pitch materials and liaise with reporters to ensure media coverage of client work.

Media Relationships

Maintain and actively leverage an established network of national media contacts across print, digital, broadcast, and opinion platforms.

Build new relationships with journalists, producers, and editors relevant to Grove Partners’ priority issues and sectors.

Act as a trusted, credible point of contact for media inquiries.

Campaign & Crisis Support

Support high‑stakes, time‑sensitive campaigns including crisis and issues management situations.

Prepare clients and spokespeople for interviews, press conferences, and editorial board meetings.

Draft press materials including press releases, media advisories, talking points, Q&As, and briefing documents.

Team & Firm Collaboration

Collaborate closely with senior strategists, government relations, and grassroots teams to ensure integrated campaign execution.

Mentor and manage junior team members supporting media relations efforts.

Contribute to firm‑wide thinking on narrative development, campaign design, and best practices.

Required Qualifications

Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in media relations at a PR agency, communications firm, or similar environment.

Established roster of national media contacts, with demonstrated ability to secure coverage in top‑tier outlets.

Proven experience placing op‑eds, bylines, and thought leadership content for clients or principals.

Strong background in traditional media relations, including pitching, press materials development, spokesperson prep, and media monitoring.

Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.

Sound judgment and discretion in high‑pressure, high‑visibility situations.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working on political, public affairs, regulatory, or reputational campaigns.

Familiarity with crisis communications and rapid‑response media environments.

Experience advising senior executives, institutional leaders, or public officials.

Ability to manage multiple clients and priorities simultaneously without sacrificing quality.
