We are seeking a

Principal Transmission Designer

to lead the design and construction of energy infrastructure, transmission, and distribution projects. The role requires managing multiple projects simultaneously, serving as the primary point of contact for client project managers, and leading teams to meet deliverables, schedules, and budgets while providing exceptional customer service. Business development is also a key responsibility.

Responsibilities

Develop and manage scope, schedule, and budget of individual projects

Work with matrixed team to provide tasks and deliverables on time

Provide clear direction of next steps to design team when needed

Monitor KPI’s, critical path, issues management, etc.

Provide project analysis and metrics for individual projects

Serve as primary point of contact for internal peers

Serve as primary point of contact for client’s internal work teams

Manage construction, procurement, invoice preparation, and project documentation

Continuously build and maintain a network of third‑party consultants and vendors

Lead project acquisition efforts, including identifying opportunities and working collaboratively with Marketing team in preparing bids and interviews for jobs

Demonstrate a working knowledge of client and industry standards related to design and construction

Lead numerous individuals and project teams by leveraging technology and project management tools for communication and coordination; provide technical support and observation services during construction; develop and monitor project organizational and administrative systems

Required Qualifications

Valid CA driver’s license

PMP Certification

PE License for Transmission specialists

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Construction Management, or other relevant field, or equivalent training and experience

Master’s degree in Business Management or equivalent experience

At least 10 years of experience in project management

Strong skills in MS Office

Positive attitude, ability to work collaboratively

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Experience with scheduling software such as Microsoft Project and Primavera P6

Experience in public utility design and construction, natural gas pipelines, water/sewer infrastructure, or electric distribution overhead and underground infrastructure

Desired Qualifications

PE License and PMP for SPACE specialists Senior Project Manager

Master’s degree in Engineering or related science, Business, or Organizational Management

Working knowledge of client and industry design and construction standards desired

Metrics

Evaluation is based, in part, on the timely, accurate completion of work

Attends in‑house seminars and external educational opportunities

The pay range for this California position is $84.00- $101.00 per hour; however, base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience of the candidate. Base pay information is based on market location. Applicants should apply via the NV5 careers site.
