Project Associate - Child Life Services Music Therapist - 8-Hour - Per Diem - Days Location: Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, CA Shift Duration: 8 hours per day Shift Type: Day Overtime Status: NONEXEMPT Job Overview The Music Therapist is an established health care professional utilizing music as a formal intervention within a therapeutic relationship to address physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of patients. The role involves developing individualized and group music therapy sessions for children, working closely with families and other professionals to help patients manage pain and stressful situations. Responsibilities Develop and implement individualized and group music therapy programs tailored to the developmental and emotional needs of children. Assess children’s physical, emotional, and cognitive needs to inform treatment planning and therapeutic interventions. Foster a safe, nurturing, and creative environment where children feel free to express themselves through music. Collaborate with families, teachers, and other healthcare professionals to track progress and provide integrated care. Monitor and document each child’s progress, adjusting therapeutic approaches as needed. Provide education and resources to families regarding the benefits of music therapy and how they can support their child’s development at home. Lead individual and group sessions that include creative, improvisational, and structured music exercises. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines in all professional interactions and documentation. Provide staff education about the role of music therapy and patient care. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Music Therapy, Music, or a related field and completion of the degree equivalency program in Music Therapy as required by the AMTA. Minimum of one year of experience working with children in a healthcare or professional setting. Board Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC) within 6 months of hire. NICU Certificate (NICU-MT) Preferred. Basic Life Support by American Red Cross or American Heart Association required. Good interpersonal and communication skills.
