Banks Landl Lighting Design (BLLD) is seeking an experienced Designer (or higher) to join our studio and contribute to our expanding portfolio of award‑winning architectural lighting work. This role is ideal for a lighting professional who blends conceptual creativity, technical expertise, and a desire to take meaningful ownership within a collaborative, design‑driven environment. As a Designer at BLLD, you will help shape lighting solutions for a wide spectrum of project types—luxury residential, boutique hospitality, innovative commercial interiors, institutional spaces, and immersive themed entertainment projects—each with unique architectural narratives and experiential design goals. At BLLD, we view lighting as both a technical discipline and a creative medium. We believe exceptional design emerges through curiosity, hands‑on exploration, and thoughtful collaboration. Our studio culture emphasizes humility, openness, accountability, and a shared commitment to design excellence. Designers at BLLD work closely with peers and leadership while gaining increasing autonomy across project phases. Because we operate as a boutique, highly engaged team, our designers have the opportunity to influence projects from concept through completion—participating in early ideation, mockups, light‑lab testing, detailed development, coordination, and final site work. We value individuals who bring passion, curiosity, and a strong point of view, and we invest deeply in mentorship and long‑term career growth. This position includes growth—opportunities to advance into Senior Designer, Associate, and future leadership roles based on performance, initiative, and interest. Our hybrid work model balances the collaborative value of in‑studio design sessions with flexible work‑from‑home days, creating an environment that is both creatively energetic and supportive of work‑life balance. Key Responsibilities Develop and present (if skillset is applicable) conceptual presentations and lighting strategies that reinforce architectural vision and spatial experience, including the preparation and delivery of clear, polished design presentations for internal reviews, client meetings, and multidisciplinary design sessions. Produce lighting design documentation using AutoCAD and Revit, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and buildable design intent across all project phases. Create hand sketches, mockups, elevations, and details to communicate design concepts and technical solutions effectively. Prepare refined design presentations using Adobe Creative Suite, integrating imagery, diagrams, lighting studies, sketches, and narrative content. Collaborate closely with architects, interior designers, engineers, consultants, and clients to ensure coordinated and integrated lighting solutions. Select lighting fixtures, control systems, and emerging technologies with consideration for performance, aesthetics, sustainability, and budget alignment. Perform lighting simulations, calculations, and code‑related tasks, including support for Title 24 and other compliance needs. Develop mounting details and integration strategies using architectural references and interdisciplinary coordination. Participate in budgeting, fixture cost analysis, and value‑engineering discussions while maintaining design integrity. Provide mentorship and oversight to junior staff, reviewing work, delegating tasks, and supporting their growth. Engage in hands‑on mockups, sample procurement, and experimentation in our light‑lab environment. Maintain and update the lighting product library, samples, and specification resources. Attend focus sessions, construction walk‑throughs, and on‑site lighting adjustments to ensure final built work upholds design intent. Support day‑to‑day project management, communication, and coordination with both internal teams and external partners. Demonstrate increasing independence and ownership of portions of projects, with opportunities to lead specific workflows or packages as experience grows. Skills & Qualifications Required Qualifications: 3+ years of experience in architectural lighting design, including responsibility for coordination or partial project management. Accredited degree in Architecture, Lighting Design, Theater/Entertainment, Interior Design, or equivalent professional background. Strong understanding of lighting principles, fixture technologies, and control strategies. Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and time management. Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines with minimal supervision while communicating clearly and effectively. Strong written and verbal communication skills; confidence engaging with clients and design partners.
