Element Biosciences is seeking an experienced
Staff Technical Writer
who has a passion for supporting customers with clear and concise documentation that is accurate, well-structured, and easy to navigate. This candidate is adept at developing content for both novice and advanced technical users with a focus on quality and the user experience. This full‑time role is based in San Diego and reports to the Senior Manager of Technical Communications.
Essential Functions And Responsibilities
Create and maintain comprehensive user content for next-generation sequencing (NGS) and single cell biology systems and related software applications.
Collaborate with product development teams to understand new product features and user interaction, determine documentation requirements, and collect input for topics most relevant to users. Work cross‑functionally to align schedules and deliver on‑time quality results.
Develop supportive instrumentation documentation, including user guides, quick references, and sample preparation instructions. Ensure instructions align with lab practices and training content.
Develop effective online software documentation, including CLI commands, workflows, and troubleshooting. Create tutorials, guides, and code samples to help users effectively interact with cloud software solutions.
Work within defined technical writing processes to ensure consistent branding, maintain source and revision control, and establish customer expectations.
Education And Experience
Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, or related experience, and at least 7 years of experience as a technical writer, including topic‑based documentation methods and writing for a global audience.
Technical understanding of NGS and bioinformatics – understanding of single cell analysis and industry trends a plus.
Successful experience working in a fast‑paced, results‑driven environment. Ability to adjust priorities and workload within shifting schedules and requirements.
Experience using XML‑based documentation tools, such as MadCap Flare, or similar, and modern software documentation tools, such as Markdown, or similar.
Bonus skills and experience include working within a cloud development environment, an understanding of software release principles and source control, such as Git, and an understanding of cloud technologies (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and their ecosystems.
Physical Requirements
Frequently moves boxes weighing up to 15 pounds.

Travel
Domestic travel up to 10%.

Base Compensation Pay Range
$125,000 – $165,000.
In addition to base compensation noted above, you will be eligible for stock options, discretionary annual bonus, no cost health insurance plans, 401(k) with company match, and flexible paid time off.
