JOB SUMMARY The Engine Mechanicis responsible forassistingthe Chief Engineer and the assistant engineer in the maintenance, operation, and repair of all vessel systems onboardship, including hotel equipment, and as directed by the Chief Engineer.
WORK SCHEDULE The Engine Mechanic works 12 hours per day: approximately 6 weeks on,6 weeksoff rotational schedule.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES Repair and Maintenance
Under the supervision of the Chief Engineer:
Operates andmaintainsthe ship’s propulsion system.
Operates andmaintainsthe electrical generation and distribution system, including emergency power.
Operates andmaintainspotable water and auto chlorination system.
Operates andmaintainsblack water/gray water/waste tanks, treatment, and testing program.
Operates andmaintainsHVAC and refrigeration systems.
Performs routine maintenance checks and keeps records of jobs performed.Keeps the Chief Engineer informed of all maintenance and repairs that have been done.
Helps with engineering,deckand hotel preventative maintenance programs ondaily,weeklyand monthly basis.
Completes maintenance and repair tasks as requested in the Cabin Maintenance Notebook.
Performs hotel maintenance tasks as directed.
Participates in shipyard availabilities.
Assists Chief Engineer in all bunkering operations.
Sweeps decks, washes windows, keeps vessels free of rust, and empties trash receptacles on a regular basis.
Cleans the public restroom and general interior areas such as bulkheads, lockers, etc.
Primesandpaintsthe vessel as assigned.
AssistsDeck,Hotel, and Expeditions departments as directed by ChiefEngineer.
Uses chemicals for cleaning and ship maintenance while ensuring personal protective equipment such as gloves, safety glasses, respirators, etc. are used correctlyin accordance withSafety Data Sheets.
May be assigned various special projects as per the Chief Engineerswork list.
Administrative
UsesNSE to update vessel maintenance records for engineering work items.
Assists the Chief Engineer with inventories.
Operates onboard computer using standard and customized software applications.
Maintains complianceofTechnicalsystemsonboard with the CDC Vessel Sanitation Program (VSP) and Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC) regulations.
Safety and Security
Participates in on board safety training,meetingsand drills, as directed by theCaptain, including fire,abandon ship, man overboard,floodingand medical emergencies.
Supports the ships security arrangements as directed bytheShip Security Officer as needed
Follows company safety and pollution prevention policies and procedures and requests guidance when necessary.
Assistsin the preparation the vessel for all U.S. Coast Guard annual dry docks and other inspections.
Participates in shoreside training as required by the company.
Familiar with the ISMand ISPSCodesand requirements.
Familiar with all duties under the company Safety Management System including Emergency Response activities.
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS
EPA Section 608 Technician Type 1 Certificationrequired.
Current First Aid/CPR/AED certificationrequired.
Valid TWIC cardrequired.
Valid US Passportrequired.
Valid USCG Medical Card per STCW standard (2 years)
STCW Basic Safety Training (BST)required.
STCW Crowd Management (CM)required.
STCW Vessel Personnel with Designated Security Duties (VPDSD)required.
Working knowledge of diesel propulsion and electricity generation systems.Knowledge of support systems such as fuel centrifuges, air compressors, pumps, hydraulics, water makers, hotel systems, plumbing, refrigeration, heating, and air conditioningalsopreferred.
Personal computer experience:Excelspreadsheet experience, and Windows applications (including Word)ispreferred.
Professional demeanor: ability to useappropriate levelsof tact and courtesy.
Must be a self-starter, able to handle multiple tasks and work with littlesupervision and work in smallspaces.
Crisis management:work well under pressure, act quicklyand decisively using sound judgment.
Maritime/boating experience preferred.
Good customer service skills; professional demeanor, ability to use necessary levels of tact and courtesy.
Detail oriented and thorough; able to follow through on assigned tasks.

$175 - $198 a day
Communication Skills The Engine Mechanic will have some guest contact and must be professional andhave the ability topresent information and respond to questions. Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.Must be able to provide concise and clear reports asrequired.Must alsopossessthe ability to effectively communicate--bothin writing and orally--witha professional demeanor.

COMPENSATION STATEMENT Lindblad Expeditions determines the pay for positions using local, national, and industry-specific survey data. We evaluate external equity and the cost of labor/prevailing wage index in the relative marketplace for jobs directly comparable to jobs within our company. Our posted salary range is based on national data and may be refined for a candidate's region/town/cost of living.
