Design and Brand Manager – City Year Boston We are seeking a Design and Brand Manager, with three to five years of professional experience, ideally in the non‑profit sector, to support City Year Boston’s fundraising, service impact, and school partnership goals by leading and executing the creative and strategic utilization of materials, documents, presentations and other messaging. The Design and Brand Manager must effectively communicate complex information in a differentiated manner to a wide variety of audiences to build a broader community of champions for City Years’ service in schools.
Responsibilities
Serve as site graphic designer; design materials (print, web, multimedia) that blend creativity and strategy to inform, engage, and inspire varied audiences on the need for and impact of City Year Boston’s service in schools
Collaborate with all City Year Boston departments to meet their communication needs through the design of new resources or through re‑envisioning existing materials or systems
Work with team members to establish project timelines and manage the creative process; usher co‑workers through concept development, drafts, and revisions while adhering to final deadlines
Consult with Director of External Affairs and Government Relations on communication strategy improvements in our approach to events, organizational collateral, and collateral produced for special meetings
Seek out new media and formats for visual design and new vendors who can help find new ways to present our messages
Work with vendors and print shops to deliver quality products at low costs and on tight turnarounds
Serve as the local Boston brand manager for the national organization, collaborating with the National Creative Director to ensure brand alignment and to share‑out resources; manage and support staff and corps in the communication and representation of the City Year brand
Continually identify opportunities to provide tailored trainings, workshops, and coaching on brand messaging to staff and corps
Supervise the creation of externally facing, brand‑appropriate documents and presentations to effectively communicate the power of City Years’ service to a wide variety of audiences
Develop and maintain resources, including a speaking points bank, templates, and graphics, that enable staff and corps to develop professional, on‑brand communication tools
Review materials drafted by multiple departments for brand representation and effectiveness
Collaborate with External Affairs team on the development and implementation of events that are innovative, inspiring, and effective event themes, programming, and experiences for diverse audiences including current and potential sponsors, champions, family, and City Year community
Design event experience and decor that ensures event success and reinforces and contributes to event themes, including but not limited to invitations, programs, table décor, pledge forms and collateral packets, décor and signage, and multimedia presentations (PowerPoint, Prezi, etc.)
Manage relationships with vendors and A/V, on‑site management of event
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, marketing or related field
Three to five years of experience in communications/marketing/public relations field; nonprofit preferred
Superb communications skills
Superb graphic design skills, with experience in managing projects from conception to production
Experience in brand management
Ability to manage multiple projects, changing deadlines, and different staff in a fast‑paced environment
Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite
Familiarity with city of Boston, Boston Public Schools, and/or education reform strongly desired
