About The Role Are you a design expert who is relentlessly curious and able to stay one step ahead of consumer needs, industry and technology trends, new materials, and emerging techniques? Do you take a future‑thinking approach—anticipating guest desires before they surface and translating insights into meaningful product opportunities? Can you demonstrate exceptional attention to detail while creating solutions that are unprecedented in the marketplace for their originality and quality for the price?
As a Designer on the Essentials & Beauty, Pet Accessories team, you’ll create trend‑forward, functional and emotionally resonant products across categories including Toys, Feeding, Bedding, Walk, Accessories, Apparel and Supplies spanning everyday, seasonal, and trend collections.
If you are solution‑centric, energized by complex problems, and excited to explore and experiment with new tools, technologies you’ll thrive on our team. We are design‑obsessed and exploratory by nature, driving the concepting and development of Target‑Owned Brands in Pet Accessories. In close partnership with merchant and sourcing teams, you’ll ensure all Owned Brand products align to growth strategies, line plans, price points, and the overall creative direction.
We Are Looking For Key Strengths In Following
Creating brand‑relevant and research‑backed trend concepts
Translating insights into distinct, ownable product lines
Designing unique products through thoughtful form language and material innovation
Leveraging diverse intelligence – culture, consumer, market, data, and technology – to identify opportunities
Exploring and adopting new tools, including digital design, AI‑enabled workflows, rapid prototyping and 3D visualization
Managing work independently across multiple projects and timelines
Building strong cross‑functional partnerships and fostering a collaborative environment
You Will
Develop compelling seasonal and long‑range concepts rooted in trend, consumer behavior, and brand storytelling
Explore innovative materials, finishes, and construction techniques across hard and soft goods
Use CAD, illustration, 3D tools, and hand sketching to translate concepts into clear product direction
Prepare high‑quality design presentations with strong narrative and visual clarity
Partner across design, technical design, sourcing, merchant, and operations teams to bring your ideas to market
Identify and solve product issues using creative thinking and technical understanding
Contribute to brand cohesion by aligning with peers

About You
Four‑year degree in Design (Industrial, Graphic, Fashion) or equivalent experience
5+ years of relevant retail experience
Strong trend research, concept development, and storytelling abilities
Expertise in CAD illustration, 2D/3D visualization, and traditional sketching
Ability to build collections based, on‑trend concepts
Knowledge of hard‑good materials (plastics, metals, woods) and soft‑good textiles
Skilled in Adobe Creative Suite and digital design tools
Comfort working with evolving tools and technologies
Ability to synthesize feedback across large assortments
Self‑motivated, accountable, and able to drive work independently
Strong collaborator skilled at building relationships across functions
Thrives in ambiguity and approaches problem‑solving with curiosity and a can‑do mindset
Willingness to travel as needed
This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member’s core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day.
