Adecco Creative is partnering with an iconic NYC fashion house to recruit for a Hardware Designer. This position will be hybrid in Midtown Manhattan and an ongoing contract.
About the Role:
As a Hardware Designer, you will be responsible for creating hardware components for leathergoods, ready-to-wear (RTW), footwear, special projects, and runway collections. The ideal candidate combines technical expertise with a strong sense of aesthetics to ensure every piece reflects the brand's identity. You will collaborate closely with design and development teams, guiding projects from initial concept through final bulk production.
Key Responsibilities:
Design Development
- Conceptualize and design hardware elements such as buckles, clasps, studs, trims, and decorative/functional components across all product categories.
- Introduce newness and innovation in hardware and trim concepts to support seasonal and runway collections.
- Translate brand identity into hardware designs that balance luxury aesthetics with functionality.
- Troubleshoot design challenges and provide technical guidance throughout development.
Technical Execution
- Execute technical designs by creating detailed 2D drawings and 3D models for prototyping and production.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and manufacturers to ensure feasibility, quality, and consistency.
- Research and propose innovative materials and construction techniques aligned with luxury standards.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with leathergoods, RTW, footwear, special projects, and runway design teams to integrate hardware seamlessly into product designs.
- Work closely with Product Development and Production teams to meet timelines and cost parameters.
Trend & Market Research
- Research hardware and trim concepts, exploring new materials, functionalities, and emerging trends in luxury fashion.
- Benchmark against competitors and identify opportunities to introduce innovative, forward-thinking solutions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Accessories Design, or related field.
- 3–5 years experience in hardware design for fashion, accessories, or luxury goods.
- Must be able to hand sketch concepts and create detailed 2D CAD drawings for prototyping and production.
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and familiarity with 3D CAD software (e.g., Rhino, SolidWorks).
- Strong understanding of construction, materials, finishes, and manufacturing processes for metal hardware used in fashion accessories.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to balance aesthetics with functionality.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills; experience working with luxury brands preferred.
Preferred Skills:
- Must be highly skilled in Illustrator and Photoshop.
- Must be organized, flexible, and able to manage multiple priorities independently.
- Must have strong communication skills.
