Shriver Media is hiring: weekend newsletter coordinator and assistant news edito

SCHEDULE

Currently: Part-time, Fridays and Saturdays (majority of work on Saturday, for a Sunday morning publication)

Growth potential: Expand to 5 days, Wednesday through Sunday, with increased focus on news monitoring and coverage throughout the week in addition to weekend productionNEWS COVERAGE & WRITINGThis role requires strong news judgment and the ability to identify stories that matter to our audience. You will:

• Monitor breaking news and developing stories within our coverage areas, keeping a pulse on what's happening throughout the week and flagging timely content for our Sunday newsletter and weekly social news posts
• Write sharp, engaging headlines, decks, and news blurbs that capture attention and convey the story quickly
• Fact-check your work thoroughly — you must know how to verify information, check sources, and ensure accuracy before publication
• Write compelling blurbs for our weekly "Sunday Paper Recommends" feature, covering TV shows, movies, books, events, podcasts, and other media with the same engaging, concise style
• Copyedit original articles and interviews for publication, ensuring accuracy and consistency with our editorial voice

NEWSLETTER PRODUCTION & BACKEND BUILDYou will physically assemble and build the complete newsletter each weekend for Sunday morning publication:

• Build original content on newsletter and website digital platforms, including light graphic design work and video uploading
• Meticulous proofreading for grammar, formatting, and link verification
• Knowledge of SailThru and Ghost is a major plus
• Backend website building experience is a plus
• Basic HTML text coding knowledge or willingness to learn

ESSENTIAL QUALITIES

• Confidence and composure under pressure — stories break, plans change, and things shift last minute. You need to handle these pivots smoothly and keep production on track.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Reliable weekend availability — this is a weekend-focused role by design

Job Types: Part-time, Contract

Base Pay: From $20,000.00 per year

Expected hours: 10 – 15 per week
