Role Summary Responsible for the development of electrical vehicle systems and hardware Electronic Control Units (ECUs) across various technology domains. Requires a fundamental EMC background. Role is highly cross‑functional and may include occasional travel. Opened at the Palo Alto office, reporting directly to an Engineering Manager within the Hardware organization.
Responsibilities
PCB Design – Design and implement high‑speed and mixed‑signal PCB layout designs to automotive standards. Drive and own PCB designs for ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), BMS (Battery Management Systems), Body systems, and Infotainment Systems. Includes HDI (High Density Interconnect) design practices, high‑speed (DDR4, PCIe, CSI, LVDS), HV, and mixed‑signal design. Improve package designs by solving space constraints and performance trade‑offs.
Manufacturing – Improve and optimize durability and performance for automotive designs. Work with contract manufacturers to develop design rules, implement DFM feedback, and ensure designs are manufacturable and meet high standards.
Process Development – Contribute to overall process and workflow development between engineering and design. Configure ECAD tools to integrate into Rivian’s design and release process.
Zoom Out & Deep Dive – Think holistically, understand impact of decisions on program and customers, and perform deep dives into technical issues for data‑driven decisions.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
10+ years’ experience in PCB layout design.
Advanced experience with Altium Designer; Cadence proficiency is a plus.
High‑density (HDI), DDR4/PCIe, signal and power integrity design experience.
Full lifecycle development from layout to manufacturing.
Experience in a high‑speed environment with short development times.
Experience defining and developing processes related to PCB design.
Up‑to‑date on latest manufacturing techniques.
Demonstrated strong creative thinking and problem‑solving toolbox.
Pay Disclosure For Irvine, California based applicants: $121,000.00 – $151,900.00 (compensation determined by experience, location, and other factors). For Palo Alto, California based applicants: $132,100.00 – $165,100.00.
