We seek an experienced commercial‑transactions attorney who can analyze complex legal issues, find creative solutions, and negotiate deals. The ideal candidate collaborates cross‑functionally, balances competing demands, works independently, maintains a positive attitude, and adds humor to our legal Slack channel. What you'll do
Structure, draft, review, negotiate, and manage a variety of commercial agreements, including advertising, license, first‑impression strategy, and CTV distribution agreements for the Ventura streaming TV operating system.
Work closely with the Ventura team to develop and bring cutting‑edge technology and the world's best content to market.
Negotiate deals with the largest advertising agencies and brands worldwide.
Collaborate with key leaders in Ventura, business development, client services, and finance to advise on complex legal matters and craft creative solutions that support the company’s success.
Continuously improve legal commercial processes to scale globally with a consistent yet locally relevant approach.
Provide practical advice on legal issues and risks, complex agreement structures, and company policies in a risk‑tolerant yet compliance‑oriented environment.
Identify, research, analyze, and advise teams on a wide range of relevant legal topics—including licensing, intellectual property, commercial law, data security, and privacy law—and associated risks.
Stay abreast of legislative changes that may affect the company globally.
Who you are
8+ years of in‑house or combined in‑house and law‑firm experience, including internationally or nationally recognized firms.
Admitted to practice in New York, Illinois, or California, or able to register as in‑house counsel in those states.
Juris Doctorate required.
Experience in digital advertising, digital media, and/or scaled platforms.
Preference for experience leading legal negotiations with the world’s largest global companies.
Strong business judgement, superior leadership skills, and a commitment to timely, high‑quality client service.
Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment while juggling competing, time‑sensitive demands.
Excellent legal skills, especially structuring, drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a variety of commercial technology agreements, and identifying key data and privacy issues.
Excellent interpersonal skills—sense of humor is a big plus.
Ability to communicate complex legal concepts in plain language.
Compensation and Benefits Base salary range: $151,080—$277,000 USD, based on location, experience, and performance. Additional compensation may include sales‑based incentives, commissions, and stock‑based grants. Benefits include comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage with employee and dependent premiums paid in full, a 401(k) plan with company match, short‑ and long‑term disability, basic life insurance, well‑being programs, tuition reimbursement, parental leave, sick time, vacation (up to 120 hours the first year, 160 hours thereafter), and approximately 13 paid holidays. Employees may purchase The Trade Desk stock at a discount through the Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Interns are not eligible for variable incentive awards such as stock‑based compensation, retirement plan, vacation, tuition reimbursement, or parental leave.
