Overview

The Broadcast and Media Operations Engineer ensures continuous, reliable broadcast operations for County programming associated with the County TV channel, online streaming and live events. This role supports communications, public transparency and community engagement by maintaining high-quality video production of public meetings including the Board of Supervisors meetings, as well as maintaining platforms and necessary resources to provide engaging and accessible public and employee County content and programs, including during emergencies. Responsibilities

Ensuring the functionality of products and equipment, compliance with federal regulations, and integration with existing systems. Oversees outside vendors/contractors for installation, repair and other maintenance services of equipment as needed. Facilitates live streaming and webcasting workflow from planning through archiving. Makes recommendations for system designs and facility utilization ensuring proactive planning of system changes and upgrades needed to stay up to date with the latest broadcasting and streaming technologies. Designs, labels, and maintains wiring and cabling systems. Provides technical support for Board of Supervisors meetings and other in-person, virtual and hybrid meetings, and events as needed. Ideal Candidate

Strong technical knowledge of broadcast systems, IT infrastructure, and AV production tools. Proficient in server and playback system maintenance. Experienced in fiber networking, digital storage, and signal distribution. Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues independently. Well versed in new technology and platforms to provide innovative solutions. Effective communication and coordination with internal departments and external vendors. Organized with a high attention to detail, comprehensive record keeping and proactive maintenance and design mindset. Effective in an independent work environment and as part of a team with minimum supervision. Ability to meet deadlines as assigned in a fast‑paced environment. Experience with the following equipment/software a plus: Facil, Spectrio, Broadstream OASYS system, Dejero, and EVO storage server. Hiring Timeline and Dates

Interviews, Job Offers and Background Process will be ongoing. (Current County employees may be exempt from the background process.) Pre‑employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results. Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date. Minimum Qualifications

An associate's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency or the equivalent of two (2) years of formal training in advanced electronics or broadcast engineering, AND three (3) years of combined experience in broadcast engineering in a large market with both remote and studio broadcast experience; OR, Five (5) years of combined experience in broadcast engineering in a large market with both remote and studio broadcast experience. As part of the County of San Diego’s pre‑employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre‑employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Additional types of background investigations may be conducted based on the job‑related activities of the position. Current County employees may be excluded from this process.
