Huntington’s Technology, Media and Telecom ("TMT") team is a fast‑growing, nationally mandated, and dynamic Specialty Vertical within Huntington’s Commercial Bank. The TMT team is a leading provider of financing solutions to technology, media and telecommunications companies and is made up of 13 seasoned bankers with deep sector knowledge. As a result of the TMT team’s robust growth, it is seeking to add an Associate – Portfolio Manager who is capable of leading and supporting the execution of new transactions while managing a dynamic portfolio of credits across the tech, media and telecom space. In addition to a broad TMT background, the ideal candidate should have Entertainment or Film / Music Finance experience, given the TMT vertical’s expansion into these sectors. This is an opportunity to join an entrepreneurial team that is in full growth mode, having grown the portfolio by more than 10x over the last 4 years.
Responsibilities
Lead and support the execution of new transactions, performing concise and thorough underwriting, and managing a dynamic portfolio of credits across tech, media and telecom.
Drive an efficient underwriting process with early identification of key milestones and adherence to deadlines, including credit adjudication, legal review, and appropriate collaboration in closing and onboarding.
Produce timely, high‑quality and detailed underwriting work product for borrowers who are public, private, investment‑grade, non‑investment‑grade or highly leveraged.
Explain complex technology, media and telecom businesses and products in an easy‑to‑understand way to a broader audience while addressing key risks, mitigants, credit policy exceptions, and regulatory designations within underwriting documents.
Collaborate with agent banks and clients, maintaining a proactive approach to addressing questions and comments arising during underwriting.
Maintain a lead role in the deal process and collaborate as part of a deal team, actively participating in key transaction discussions and presenting effective dialogue in credit committees, portfolio reviews, etc.
Maintain an understanding of portfolio returns, identify potential cross‑sell opportunities, and partner with the Relationship Manager to assess and formulate deal strategy.
Recognize and communicate adverse changes in borrowers’ risk profiles, escalating challenges and providing timely portfolio insights, including deteriorating or developing risks and emerging credit trends.
Ensure quality, timeliness, and accuracy of portfolio monitoring and maintenance activities, including risk ratings, annual reviews, portfolio reviews, product line requests, and renewals.
Proactively manage workflow and pipeline, focusing on adherence to internal and external deadlines.
Build and maintain working relationships with the RM team, credit team, key product partners, and supporting teams (Loan Closers, Credit Review, Legal, etc.).
Respond promptly and thoroughly to examinations, including internal audit and external regulators.
Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of technology, media and telecom industry characteristics and provide relevant updates, serving as the subject‑matter expert, attending industry conferences and bank meetings or client calls.
Active engagement and participation in projects and work streams.
Qualifications
Basic: 3+ years of commercial portfolio management experience; 2+ years in Technology, Media or Telecom finance; Bachelor’s degree.
Preferred: 3–5 years of TMT portfolio management; Entertainment or Film / Music Finance experience; MBA or Master’s degree; formal credit training; experience at a large national, international or super‑regional bank.
Work Environment This position is open to remote work, but the preferred location is New York, NY. Huntington combines the best of both worlds: in‑office and work‑from‑home, with remote teams allowed to come together in offices for moments that matter.
Compensation and Benefits Compensation Range: $77,000.00 – $161,000.00 Annual Salary. The range represents the low and high end of the base compensation; actual compensation will vary and may be above or below the range based on location, experience, and performance. Colleagues in this position are also eligible to participate in an applicable incentive compensation plan. Huntington provides a variety of benefits, including health insurance coverage, wellness program, life and disability insurance, retirement savings plan, paid leave programs, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).
