Overview
The Director of Sales & Marketing will oversee all aspects of the hotel’s commercial strategy across sales, marketing, digital, brand positioning, and revenue alignment. You’ll lead a strong team, collaborate with ownership and brand partners, and own performance across corporate, group, entertainment, leisure, and direct channels. This role is a key executive committee member with direct influence on the hotel’s success.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute the hotel’s holistic commercial plan aligned with revenue goals.
- Lead a sales team responsible for corporate, group, transient, entertainment, and travel trade segments.
- Build a proactive sales culture focused on new business generation, strategic account management, and measurable productivity.
- Partner closely with Revenue Management to optimize pricing, forecasting, and market mix.
- Lead digital strategy, content, social presence, and partnerships to strengthen the hotel’s brand and drive direct demand.
- Oversee PR, creative agencies, and marketing vendors to enhance visibility in local and global feeder markets.
- Ensure cohesive storytelling across all channels, from website to on‑property activation.
- Outperform the comp set through targeted sales strategies, rapid‑response systems, and aggressive market‑share growth.
- Optimize OTA, wholesale, corporate, group, and entertainment channels.
- Expand NYC market penetration through relationships with agencies, corporate accounts, entertainment groups, and travel partners.
- Coach team members with clear KPIs, weekly performance reviews, and quarterly goals.
- Serve as a senior leader on the hotel’s executive committee with influence on operations and long‑range planning.
- Present performance updates with clarity, confidence, and actionable insights.
- Develop long‑term revenue roadmaps, budget plans, and comp‑set strategies.
- Collaborate closely with ownership to ensure alignment on commercial priorities.
Qualifications & Experience
- 8–15+ years of progressive hotel sales experience.
- Minimum 3–5 years as a Director of Sales & Marketing at a 300+ room NYC hotel or comparable major‑market property.
- Strong track record of exceeding revenue targets and improving market share.
- Experience with luxury, lifestyle, or high‑volume corporate hotels preferred.
- Commercially savvy strategist with deep knowledge of NYC demand drivers.
- Fast‑moving, data‑driven, and relentless in pursuit of revenue.
- Strong leadership skills to elevate team performance and culture.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship‑building skills.
- Deep understanding of revenue management fundamentals and digital marketing.
