Photographer #321 – United States Senate Sergeant at Arms Target Hiring Range: $87,000-$102,000 Department: Support Operations Posting Date Range: 12/17/2025-12/31/2025 Pay Grade Range: $72032-$126056 Work Hours: 8:30am-5:30pm FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Remote Work Status: Onsite Relocation Expenses: Not Paid Application Deadline: 7pm EST (Late applications will not be accepted) Job Overview The U.S. Senate Sergeant at Arms is seeking an experienced, mission‑driven Photographer to join its Photographic Services team. The role supports the Senate’s work by producing executive‑level still and short‑form video imagery for Senators and the broader Senate community. The Photographer works in fast‑paced, high‑visibility environments, capturing imagery for a wide range of official and ceremonial events such as member portraits, committee hearings, press conferences, presidential inaugurations, State of the Union addresses, visits by foreign heads of state, private meetings, constituent events, award presentations, passport photography, and landscape/architectural imagery. Key Accountabilities / Essential Job Duties • Plan, shoot, edit photographs for a variety of projects. • Create retouched images and intricate composites in Photoshop, suitable for official portraits. • Conceptualize and develop visual assets that align with SAA. • Apply principles of color theory to enhance visual appeal. • Employ skilled batch imagery processing and metadata ingesting techniques. • Maintain and clean equipment, ensuring optimal functionality. • Other duties as assigned. Job Specifications Required Education High School Diploma / GED. Other Duties / Responsibilities Records and edits video to produce short‑form video products. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with co‑workers, supervisors, and customers. Effectively communicates with a diverse group of subjects and provides clear direction in a respectful manner. Required Work Experience Five (5) to seven (7) years of experience working as a professional photographer. Required Special Skills / Knowledge Proficiency in photographic principles, framing, and shooting practices. Ability to assess color, density, and contrast with acute attention to detail. Knowledge of AP style caption writing. Skill in batch imagery processing and metadata ingesting. Demonstrated skill with the Adobe suite, Photoshop, Photo Mechanic, and the Microsoft Office suite on PC and Apple platforms. Communication, collaboration, and critical evaluation skills. Potential to participate in a skills assessment during hiring. Desired Qualifications Knowledge of and experience with mirrorless cameras, video and audio equipment, and editing software (Adobe suite) for short‑form video. Problem‑solving in the moment, diplomatically handling challenging and sensitive situations. Self‑motivated with effective problem‑solving skills and high attention to detail. Familiarity with the digital photo printing process. Strong preference for candidates with short‑form video experience. Working Conditions The position requires onsite presence during Senate sessions and availability during government shutdowns, inclement weather, holidays, nights, weekends, and overtime. Moderate physical demand (lifting Work may involve ladders, scaffolding, stages, confined spaces, and early mornings, late evenings, and weekends with little notice. Some travel may be required.
