Position Summary Telecom Specialist will be responsible for day-to-day operations for BMCHS, covering Boston Medical Center campus and the Boston Medical Center Healthnet Plan. Responsibilities include designing, evaluating and maintaining telecommunication technologies such as VoIP, TDM, Analog, CMS, voicemail, conference calling, call recording and hard and soft phone deployments.
Essential Responsibilities / Duties
Manage and support all moves, adds and changes
Work daily with Service Now tickets for clinical and administrative staff
Manage inventory of telephones, softphones, extensions, headsets, jacks and voicemail boxes
Enhance customer reputation by taking ownership of new requests and adding value for the customer
Utilize programs and software such as Avaya Call Manager, CMS, Aura messaging and conferencing, NICE in contact, Virtual Observer, Avaya One-X agent including configuration, tracing, troubleshooting, log analysis and station/system programming
Program contact center applications, including Hunt groups, vector programming and agent configuration
Meet with department management and consultants to assess telecommunications needs related to telephony requests and make recommendations
Collaborate with outside vendors on high‑complexity projects such as installations, upgrades and maintenance on voice and data networks including SIP, PRI, LAN/WAN and POTS
Evaluate existing technology capabilities and potential application of new technology, providing recommendations to meet client needs and develop new methods for improving services
Communicate work progress to management to ensure other systems are not adversely affected, on a need‑basis and during bi‑weekly staff meetings
Work around project deadlines, scheduling and priorities; response time often critical
Apply hospital values and attributes to decision‑making and support the department’s and hospital’s mission
Participate in a rotational 24x7 on‑call team to support the business on and off hours
Other duties as assigned by management
Job Requirements Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor of Science Degree in computer science and at least 4 years’ experience in telecommunications and IT network systems, or an equivalent combination of formal education and experience.

Cisco Certification Networking Associate (CCNA) and/or Cisco Certification Voice Professional (CCVP)
Avaya Certified Support or Implementation Specialist
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):
Demonstrated progressive knowledge, responsibility and experience of telecommunications and IT network systems
Excellent English communication skills (oral and written) and interpersonal skills to interact with internal and external contacts in a courteous, customer‑service manner
Excellent organizational skills, including ability to multi‑task, prioritize essential tasks and meet deadlines
Ability to analyze and solve problems systematically, logically and in a timely manner
Basic computer proficiency, including ability to enter and access data/information
Compensation Range $50,500.00–$73,000.00
This range is based on the minimum job qualifications. Base pay is determined comprehensively, considering education, experience, skills, certifications/licences, business/organizational needs, internal equity and market competitiveness.
