Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children is seeking a Music Therapist. Providing compassionate care to the children, teenagers and young adults of Central Florida for more than 30 years, Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children is located on the downtown Orlando campus and includes 156 licensed beds for specialized care for children as well as the Bert Martin's Champions for Children Emergency Department & Trauma Center, offering trauma care for children as the pediatric site of the Orlando Health ORMC Level One Trauma Center. State-of-the-art pediatric services are provided by a comprehensive staff that includes pediatric subspecialty physicians and a nursing team that is "Magnet" recognized for nursing excellence and high-quality patient care. The hospital also has earned national recognition for 12 consecutive years as a "Best Children's Hospitals" by U.S. News & World Report and was included, together with Orlando Health ORMC, in the IBM Watson Health 100 Top Hospitals list for 2021. The Music Therapist is responsible for providing music therapy in both group and individualized sessions for the purpose of meeting the psychosocial and developmental needs of the patients and their families. Assesses, plans, implements, documents, and evaluates the services provided based on policy, standards of practice, and interdisciplinary collaboration within the healthcare team. Responsibilities include: Assessing and interacting with patients and families using music therapy principles as well as theories of human growth and development, family systems and socio-cultural diversity. Recognizing and addressing the importance of music therapy in facilitating a patient's mastery of and coping with the health care experience and other potential life-altering experiences. Using formal and informal assessment techniques to accurately determine patients' health needs and emotional status; documenting such as related to specific music interventions. Providing direction to hospital volunteers related to patient care activity and services. Mentoring the music therapy practicum students to enhance their understanding of music therapy practice and foster their ability to pursue further clinical training. Providing a therapeutic and safe environment for individuals and groups. Facilitating developmentally appropriate group activities; attending to individual needs at bedside if indicated. Providing input for the music therapy program through the safe use and maintenance of age-appropriate supplies. Assisting patients in coping with the stress of illness or loss by providing appropriate music therapy interventions. Determining and prioritizing the needs and the scope of music therapy interventions for each patient and their family. Incorporating techniques that encourage self-expression through original song creation. Collaborating with other disciplines on the health care team to advocate patient needs. Demonstrating, explaining, and/or providing music education to enhance the quality of the healthcare experience by matching patient's interests and abilities with specific music modality. Demonstrating knowledge and ability to provide clinical support to patients and families of all age groups. In collaboration with healthcare team, assessing patient needs and providing age appropriate, non-pharmacological pain management techniques to patients, i.e. music relaxation, auditory environment enhancement, and distraction. Providing parental guidance regarding effective use of music to assist with adjustment to hospitalization or medical treatment if working with children. Modifying and integrating various music interventions to accommodate individual needs as well as patients in group settings. Ability to use recording studio equipment for the purpose of creative song writing and music skill development. Representing and communicating psychosocial issues of health care. Advocating for the needs of patients and families by maintaining communication with members of the healthcare staff. Observing, assessing and documenting information/ interventions regarding the psychosocial issues of pediatric patients and families and the specific music therapy treatment plan to address those issues. Enhancing professional growth to maintain current professional knowledge base. Conducting self-evaluation and participating in establishing professional goals. Participating in unit/department/hospital meetings, committees and/or task forces. Assisting the Senior Music Therapists or department management with tasks surrounding research projects, program analytics or other leadership initiatives as indicated. Adhering to the professional code of ethics and standards of practice for the Music Therapy profession. Establishing working relationships within the hospital system and with appropriate community agencies. Maintaining board certification as granted by the Certification Board for Music Therapists. Practicing and promoting positive guest relations and administrative functions. Engaging with professional musicians and other musicians in training when presented with the opportunity to facilitate their involvement with patients and families. Participating in productivity and team building efforts in the department and in the hospital. Respecting and supporting patient/family's rights and advocating for patients/families. Participating in Healing Arts activities including choirs, exhibitions, concerts, and fundraisers as the need arises when working in the adult hospitals. Maintaining reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards. Maintaining compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures. Qualifications: Education/Training: Bachelor's degree in Music Therapy or related music education training. Licensure/Certification: Must maintain current professional Music Therapist - Board Certified MT-BC certification; or eligible to sit for the exam and successfully complete within first year of employment. Maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification. Experience: Music Therapy internship required.
