Position Summary The Staff Nurse I provides direct patient care and aims to improve outcomes by integrating Shared Leadership, Evidence Based Practice, Relationship Based Care, and nursing excellence standards. This role incorporates professional practice models, current standards and clinical experience to deliver quality patient care, collaborates with the healthcare team, advocates, educates patients, and participates in organizational and departmental activities.

Duties & Responsibilities

Develops, implements, and updates the patient’s plan of care based on ongoing assessment and input from family.

Shares information and collaborates with the healthcare team to promote effective patient care.

Verifies and implements orders from physicians, physician assistants, and advanced practice nurses, performing interventions as prescribed and documenting accurately.

Engages patients and families to develop appropriate educational plans.

Recognizes symptoms, establishes priorities, and responds to patient needs.

Delegates tasks to support personnel per the Illinois State Nurse Practice Act, providing support and feedback.

Advocates for patients, families, the community, and the nursing profession.

Integrates theoretical knowledge, evidence-based research, standards of practice, and clinical experience to deliver quality care aligned with nursing standards and accrediting bodies.

Assumes role of Charge Nurse when assigned, utilizing resources and tools.

Collaborates with other nurses to provide positive learning experiences for staff and students.

Serves as preceptor and/or resource to nursing, support staff, and students.

Continuously pursues professional growth by identifying learning needs and initiating strategies to meet them.

Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Eligibility for licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation.

Current BLS/CPR and/or other required unit‑specific certifications.

Current ACLS or within 6 months of hire for main hospital.

Effective oral and written communication facilitating therapeutic relationships.

Intermediate computer skills with ability to become proficient in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) with on‑the‑job training.

Excellent attendance, interpersonal skills, and work history.
