Children’s Librarian

Job Summary
The City of Willows is seeking an enthusiastic and community-focused Children’s Librarian to plan and deliver library programs and services for children and young adults. This full-time position plays an important role in promoting literacy, creativity, and lifelong learning while building positive relationships with youth and families in the community.
This is a full-time, non-exempt position (40 hours per week) . The position may require evening and weekend hours.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan, promote, present, and evaluate age-appropriate programs for children and young adults, including Storytime's, crafts, book talks, videos, songs, and discussion groups
- Conduct outreach and serve as a liaison to schools, daycares, homeschool providers, and community organizations
- Assist children, teens, and adults with selecting library materials and using the library catalog, computers, and internet resources
- Encourage reading, learning, and creativity in a welcoming and inclusive environment
- Support strong parent-child relationships through library services and programs
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Skills, Knowledge, and Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; post-secondary education preferred
- Experience working with children required
- Knowledge of children’s and young adult literature
- Ability to design and deliver engaging, creative programming
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with patrons of all ages
- Ability to learn and use library software and common computer applications
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks
- Spanish speaking and reading skills preferred
- Ability to lift, carry, and shelve library materials
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver’s license
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: Up to $58,000 annually (DOE/DOQ)
- Retirement: CalPERS 3% @ 60 (Classic) or 2% @ 62 (PEPRA)
- Medical/Dental/Vision: 100% City-paid for employee; 50% for dependents
- Life Insurance: $50,000 City-paid coverage
- Leave: 14 holidays, 80 hrs vacation, 96 hrs sick leave
- Education Stipend: $50 (Associate) / $100 (Bachelor)
