Position Summary
Staff Nurse II is accountable for delivering patient care using the Nursing Process and Relationship-Based Care model. They provide direct patient care, improve outcomes through shared leadership and evidence-based practice, and serve as an interdisciplinary team member and educational resource. They facilitate educational development, lead unit-based quality improvement initiatives, and serve as a professional and clinical role model.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Develops, implements, and updates the patient’s plan of care based on ongoing assessments and family input.
- Shares information and collaborates with health care team members to promote effective care.
- Verifies and implements orders from physicians, physician assistants, or advanced practice nurses, performing interventions as prescribed and documenting accurately.
- Engages patients and families to develop appropriate educational plans.
- Recognizes symptoms, establishes priorities, and responds to changing needs.
- Delegates appropriate tasks per the Illinois State Nurse Practice Act and provides support and feedback.
- Advocates for patients, families, significant others, community, and the nursing profession.
- Assumes role of Charge Nurse when assigned, utilizing appropriate resources and tools.
- Integrates theoretical knowledge, evidence-based research, and clinical experience to provide quality care measured by nursing standards.
- Maintains professional growth by identifying learning needs and initiating strategies to meet them.
- Identifies recurring clinical practice problems and participates in problem solving and resolution.
- Plans, presents, and evaluates learning experiences for staff and students.
- Serves as preceptor or resource to other nursing, support staff, and students.
- Leads unit-based quality initiatives in collaboration with the Director/CNCII and provides feedback and education to staff.
- Performs other related duties and participates in special projects as assigned.
