LegalCORPS provides equitable transactional business law services by leveraging a roster of over 600 pro bono attorneys and staff attorneys. Our mission is to expand access to business law services for individuals and organizations to promote economic development and strengthen communities. We offer non‑litigation transactional business and intellectual property protection legal aid to entrepreneurs, business owners, inventors, and nonprofits with limited resources and/or access to the legal system.

Position Summary The Communications & Development Manager is responsible for managing external outreach and communications for the agency and executing fundraising activities, partnering with the Strategic Engagement Director on annual volunteer appreciation events, grant writing, annual appeals, donor prospecting, engagement, stewardship of all levels, and major giving. The candidate should be prepared to promote a culture of ethics, integrity, and compliance.

Position Responsibilities Summary

Collaborate with the Strategic Engagement Director to create and maintain strategic communications.

Contribute to the creation and execution of an editorial calendar for LegalCORPS digital marketing, including e‑news emails.

Create compelling content—press releases, impact stories, marketing materials—for engagement, and execute consistent social media messaging across multiple platforms to all constituents.

Lead outreach efforts throughout the region, including partner agency event involvement and special grant projects and volunteer outreach.

Monitor industry trends and best practices in nonprofit fundraising and communications.

Collaborate with colleagues to keep the website updated with new content, photos, news items, partnerships, and resources, ensuring coordination with social media content.

Assist in analyzing marketing efforts and tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) to improve engagement.

Development Responsibilities

Conduct all activities required to seek, secure, and manage grants and contracts from government entities, foundations, and corporations.

Implement strategic fundraising plan for individual giving and annual events.

Oversee grant and contract management—including application, renewal, reporting, and site visits—collaborating with administrative, evaluation, and program teams.

Prepare an annual development calendar, produce monthly status reports and relevant timelines for the executive team.

Develop, with the Executive Director, the annual appeal and implement fundraising efforts.

Assist directors and the executive director with other tasks and special projects as needed.

Analyze fundraising efforts and track KPIs to improve engagement.

Qualifications

4‑year degree with experience in similar roles preferred; associate’s degree and 4+ years’ experience in a similar role can substitute.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to adapt to the needs of diverse constituencies.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other database/reporting software; familiarity with video‑conferencing platforms.

High comfort level in learning various forms of technology.

Excellent written communication skills.

Good judgment and ability to work independently.

Understanding of law and legal systems; familiarity with Minnesota and surrounding state’s legal community preferred.

Ability to handle multiple tasks with varying deadlines.

Proven organizational skills and detail‑oriented.

Bi‑lingual in Spanish, Somali, or Hmong is a plus.

Work Location Office located at Minneapolis, University of St. Thomas campus, 1000 LaSalle Ave, TMH 331, Minneapolis, MN 55403. This position is expected to be hybrid, requiring 2‑3 days per week in the office. Hybrid arrangement is subject to change.
