Lower Merion School District is hiring a middle school teacher for a split Communications and Leadership position at Bala Cynwyd Middle School.
Lower Merion School District is offering a Leadership course in each grade: 5th through 8th. Leadership courses support students in becoming more self and socially aware, in building strong relationships with others, and in helping students understand their power and potential to impact a larger community.
Grade 5 Communications (Study Skills) Study Skills supports learners as they hone their reading and organizational skills in increasingly independent ways. Students learn strategies for scanning, note-making, and outlining; listening and note-taking; aggregating and organizing information; building vocabulary; and preparing for and taking tests and assessments
Grade 6 Communications (Presentation) Students develop an array of communication skills that can be used in a variety of speaking and listening situations. These situations include participating in small and large group discussions, note-making when others are speaking, and giving speeches and presentations in front of audiences. Students will learn how to generate and organize questions and ideas, how to write for verbal and visual delivery, how to actively listen to others , how to build on the ideas or questions of others, how to make notes when others present information, and how to make stylistic choices that impact the way a message is received by an audience.
This position includes instructional responsibilities in the 5th-6th grade house as well the 7th-8th grade house; therefore, candidates are required to possess a certification (or a combination of certifications) that allows them to teach in all middle-level grades. Successful candidate must be certified to teach ELA in grades 5 & 6 (K-6 or 4-8 ELA) in addition to a middle or secondary certification area.
3-5 years teaching experience preferred. Good standing relative to Act 48 credits. Child abuse, PA State Police and FBI clearances (no less than one year from date of hire).
This is a long-term substitute position starting immediately and lasting until June 2026.
