Responsibilities
Overseeing and directing the daily operations of the Public Relations team.
Collaborating with the PR team to plan and execute thoughtful publicity campaigns.
Developing relationships with media organizations and important influencers.
Delegating tasks to members of the PR team, and monitoring their progress.
Speaking on behalf of the company in interviews and press conferences.
Tracking campaign success and media coverage; presenting reports on the effectiveness of campaigns.
Managing public relations budgets and overall pro forma.
Addressing negative press or PR crises if they occur.
Working with colleagues and teams, the Director will lead new business onboarding credentials and pitches.
Run executive media relations programs, including media training, for the PR team.
Ensure the delivery of excellent, consistent service and results; bring rigorous evaluation and measurement to campaign planning and reporting; ensure all staff deadlines are met.
Participate in, or lead the development of written materials, working to provide strategic insight, messaging, goals, direction and revisions.
Manage and motivate direct reports, setting and reviewing goals; work to maximize strengths, improve weaknesses and support career development.
Lead staff reviews and conduct quarterly goal-setting; establish and monitor staff performance and development goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, conduct annual performance appraisals.
Help recruit, manage and develop top talent using a supportive and collaborative approach on a consistent basis while adhering and enhancing BRND House’s best practice for building an exceptional culture.
Attend networking events, seminars and conferences, including out-of-hours, as required to maintain personal professional development and to build networking and new business contacts.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field is required, an advanced degree is preferred.
Demonstrated skill and comfort in proactively building relationships with top tier reporters and editors, and in successfully positioning subject matter with the media to achieve high-impact placements.
Extensive successful writing and editing experience (externally focused) with a variety of print and online communications media.
Demonstrated experience and leadership in managing a comprehensive strategic communications, media relations, and marketing program to advance an organization’s mission and goals.
Creative and thoughtful on how new media technologies can be utilized.
A minimum of five years experience in planning, writing, editing, and production of press releases, annual reports, marketing literature and other print publications and directories.
Innovative thinker, with a track record for translating strategic thinking into action plans and output.
Experience in building, mentoring, and coaching a team of communications specialists.
Excellent judgment and creative problem solving skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
Ability to make decisions in a changing environment and anticipate future needs.
