Department Overview The Software Tools team is responsible for delivering, maintaining, and optimizing the digital engineering environment that supports product development across the engineering organization. Our mission is to ensure that engineers have reliable, integrated, and well‑governed systems for creating, managing, and releasing product data. The team oversees PLM operations, CAD environments, data standards, and key engineering toolsets including Teamcenter, Zuken, and related enterprise integrations.

By managing the systems and standards that support design and data management processes, the Software Tools team plays a critical role in enabling accuracy, efficiency, and compliance across Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Quality.

About the Role We are looking for a Mechanical CAD Designer / Standard Part Librarian responsible for developing and maintaining detailed 3D models, assemblies, and 2D drawings for bus components and sub‑systems using Siemens NX. In addition to mechanical design, this position administers and maintains Engineering’s Standard Parts Library and CAD data standards within Teamcenter, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance with GILLIG’s engineering, manufacturing, and documentation standards.

This role plays a key part in promoting design reuse, maintaining data integrity, and supporting continuous improvement of CAD and PLM systems and data. This position requires close collaboration with Engineering, Manufacturing, Procurement and other departments to drive efficiency, accuracy, and standardization in product data management.

This is an on‑site position in our Livermore, CA office and reports to the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) Manager.

In this Role You Will

Create and maintain detailed 3D models, assemblies, installations, and 2D drawings for bus components and sub‑systems using Siemens NX

Apply mechanical design principles, including tolerance stack‑ups, interface definition, and packaging, with emphasis on manufacturability, assembly, and serviceability

Process redlines and engineering change revisions in collaboration with Engineering and Manufacturing teams

Develop, maintain, and administer the Standard Parts Library in Teamcenter/NX, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with CAD standards

Create, classify, and validate standard part records (fasteners, seals, clips, grommets, etc.) according to naming conventions and engineering guidelines

Audit the library to identify and eliminate duplicate, obsolete, or incomplete entries

Establish, document, and enforce CAD modeling, drawing, and file naming standards across Engineering

Coordinate with Engineering, Procurement, and other teams to ensure standard parts align with sourcing and design requirements

Perform self‑checks and peer reviews to ensure designs and documentation meet GILLIG standards

Maintain version control, data integrity, and compliance within Teamcenter and internal quality processes

Identify opportunities for automation and process improvement within CAD and PLM workflows

Promote design standardization and reuse to reduce part proliferation and increase engineering efficiency

Scope of the Role

Autonomy:

Manages day‑to‑day tasks with moderate independence, seeking guidance for major decisions or cross‑functional impacts. Works independently on assigned subsystems with review at key milestones.

Technically Minded:

Applies relevant industry practices, drafting standards, and engineering principles to develop accurate 3D models and drawings. Utilizes specialized CAD expertise to support subsystem‑level design needs and provides informed input to engineers and peers when interpreting design intent or requirements.

Time Management:

Consistently meets deadlines and adapts to changing priorities with minimal oversight. Plans workload effectively to support project schedules, deliverables, and budget.

Communication:

Collaborates effectively across engineering, production, and other stakeholders to clarify requirements and resolve design issues. Communicates design intent clearly and proactively seeks alignment when integrating with adjacent systems.

Complexity:

Handles subsystem‑level or specialized tasks with some cross‑functional exposure. Resolves moderately complex design challenges by applying established methods and interpreting relevant information. Escalates higher‑risk or ambiguous issues appropriately.

Quality & Standards:

Produces accurate, complete, and compliant models, drawings, and documentation. Ensures released designs support manufacturability, serviceability, and customer requirements while adhering to internal standards and best practices.
