Position Summary This position works closely with the Executive Director to promote BRADD’s mission, programs, and events to the public and stakeholders. The Communications Director serves as an agency liaison, drafts press releases, manages social media, publishes the monthly calendar and e‑newsletter, assists with website development and maintenance, and frequently attends public events and meetings with local elected officials and community leaders.

Responsibilities

Maintain and regularly update all social media platforms including Facebook, X, Instagram and LinkedIn.

Create and publish the monthly calendar(s) and e‑newsletter in collaboration with the Public Administration Specialist.

Draft and circulate media releases and maintain relationships with the media.

Oversee special projects, research and assignments as directed by the Executive Director.

Prepare the Annual Report in collaboration with each BRADD Program Director.

Create brochures and other marketing tools.

Ensure brand standards are followed by staff in external-facing media.

Serve as the official photographer and videographer for BRADD and maintain photos and videos taken by staff.

Prepare speeches and presentations for the Executive Director as needed.

Collaborate with the Kentucky Council of Area Development Districts on marketing efforts.

Attend and participate in internal and external meetings with and on behalf of the Executive Director as needed.

Coordinate training for staff and the Board of Directors.

Work with the IT Director on website design and updates.

Support marketing, education, and promotion of all key programming areas of the ADD.

Perform related duties as required.

Training & Experience This position requires a bachelor’s degree from a four‑year college or university (master’s preferred) in journalism, marketing, communication, public relations or a related field, plus a minimum of five (5) years of related job experience. Related experience includes a position of responsibility in media, marketing, or journalism.

Knowledge

Basic knowledge of the physical, economic, and social aspects of the counties in the Barren River Area Development District.

Appropriate knowledge and expertise in assigned tasks.

Dedication, responsibility, and integrity.

Skills

Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, demonstrated by the ability to coordinate the efforts of separate program activities and various staff levels.

Excellent written and oral communication skills, concise and clear.

Proficient computer skills and capability with multiple marketing strategies and software programs, including Google, Microsoft Suite, Adobe Suite, project management programs, and Canva.

Abilities

Ability to establish and maintain favorable working relationships with employees, committees, councils, local, state, and federal governmental organizations, and the general public.

Administrative and supervisory ability, diplomatic judgment, and sound judgment.

Self‑motivation; works well without supervision.

Additional Requirements

Use of own judgment most of the time.

Complex processes requiring analysis of guidelines and establishment of concepts or programs within established limits or policies.

Limited review by the Executive Director.

Extensive analytical requirements involving figures, data, and results that directly affect organizational policy.

Planning feasible and cost‑effective projects; providing staff guidance as needed.

Basic office equipment; the use of a vehicle is a job requirement.

Work is performed typically indoors in an office setting; must lift objects weighing in excess of 25 pounds; may require travel by plane and attendance of after‑hour meetings and overnight travel with limited notice.

Frequent public and internal contacts requiring tact and diplomacy.

Regular use of confidential information.

Heavy mental effort; constant interruptions.

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Availability to attend evening and weekend meetings; overnight travel as needed.

No certification requirements.

Opportunities for training offered by state and federal partners.

Overtime provision: exempt.
