Senior Communications Director
Responsibilities
Conduct a comprehensive review of the Foundation’s website. Plan and execute website improvements and oversee related vendors
Lead content creation for newsletters, the Foundation’s website, press releases, thought leadership materials, board reports, blog posts and all other social media
Serve as the content and editorial lead for the President & CEO's internal and external communications, including speeches, letters, announcements, event scripts, and communications with clients, partners, and the media
Lead role in developing effective campaigns and other sustained communications strategies with target audiences, clear goals, and measurable outcomes
Work with the Philanthropy & Development teams, President & CEO, to develop and implement communication strategies that support the Foundation’s three-year capital campaign and engage donors, foundations, family offices, staff, and other stakeholders
Develop and manage communications budget
Assist with preparing major gift grant proposals for foundations, corporations, and church-related funding organizations
Collaborate with the Vice President of Finance, Chief Operating Officer, and the Philanthropy & Development teams to coordinate deliverables and impact metrics
Engagement
Manage the Foundation’s social media presence to ensure consistent tone, pacing, and messaging
Manage current social media consultant and monitor analytics to measure engagement, growth, and brand resonance
Coordinate digital storytelling initiatives highlighting congregations, ministers, lay leaders, and donors
Collaborate with the President & CEO, Philanthropy & Development teams, and social media consultant to create campaigns that highlight the Foundation's leadership initiatives and philanthropic partnerships, advancing the Foundation’s mission and impact
Secondary Responsibilities
Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy aligned with the Foundation’s Strategic Plan and mission
Strategic Vision: Align team actions with the Foundation’s mission and long-term goals
Emotional Intelligence: Demonstrate self‑awareness, empathy, and the ability to manage conflict and stress within the team
Effective Communication: Clearly convey expectations, provide feedback, and encourage open conversation
Team Motivation: Encourage, coordinate, and help team members reach shared goals
Collaboration and Respect: Foster a culture of mutual respect, shared purpose, and constructive debate
Accountability: Establish clear goals and ensure the team is responsible for results
Relationship building: Develop and maintain relationships at all levels, both within the Foundation and externally
Team structure: Regularly evaluate and design the team's organizational structure to maximize efficiency, clarify roles, and establish scalable workflows for future growth
Mentor/role modeling: Act as a mentor and role model executive behaviors
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, sociology, or a related field (master’s degree preferred)
15+ years of progressively responsible experience in nonprofit communications, major gift grantwriting, or digital marketing
Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with a strong focus on voice, clarity, and aligning with the mission
Proficiency in content management systems, grant making, and social media tools
Non-Profit/Church Experience: Verified executive management experience in nonprofit or church-related organizations
Church‑Specific Knowledge: Understanding of the Episcopal Church’ structure, mission, and values preferred
Location: This position is fully remote with the option to work from the Foundation office at 475 Riverside Drive, Suite 750, New York, NY.
The starting salary range for the newly hired Senior Communications Director is $135,000 to $165,000.
The Episcopal Church Foundation offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience and a comprehensive benefits package.
