The Position One full‑time vacancy for the Information Technology Services Division of the County Executive Office. The role may be filled at Level I or II depending on qualifications.
About the Position The Communications Systems Specialist will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of communications and electronic equipment, with a specialty focus on radio communications. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical foundation in configuring and managing network infrastructure to support critical communication systems throughout Napa County. Proficiency in routing, switching, and network security is strongly desired.
Selected candidates must be willing to work nights, weekends, holidays, and irregular hours, be available for on‑call/standby work, and travel significantly to remote sites throughout the County, including off‑road areas.
Responsibilities
Install, maintain, and repair communications and electronic equipment, including radio and network systems.
Configure and manage network infrastructure, routers, switches, and security features.
Support critical communication systems used across county agencies.
Position Requirements – Level I
Two years of journey‑level experience in the installation, maintenance, or repair of communications and electronic equipment.
Completion of twelfth grade supplemented by technical instruction in electronic communication systems installation and maintenance.
Position Requirements – Level II
Four years of experience performing network and systems support, installation, maintenance, and repair of communications and electronic equipment, including PBX administration, VoIP, NVMS, wired/wireless network infrastructure, and land mobile radio (LMR) or radio‑over‑IP (RoIP) equipment.
Equivalent to completion of twelfth grade supplemented by technical instruction in electronic communication systems installation and maintenance.
Required Licenses
Valid California Drivers’ License.
For Level II qualifying under Pattern 2, a valid General Radiotelephone Operator’s License (GROL) issued by the FCC.
Highly Desired Licenses
CCENT, CCNA, CompTIA, A+, ComTIA Network+, or an equivalent certification.
Work Conditions
Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and irregular hours.
Standby call‑back availability.
Significant travel to remote sites throughout the County, including off‑road areas.

Supplemental questions will be scored by subject matter experts. Qualified applicants will be invited for an oral exam (panel interview).
Oral exam: Tentatively week of February 2, 2026.
