Senior Book Publishing Production Editor
Experienced Production Editor needed on a temporary contract basis to oversee the production editorial process on a wide variety of titles—from board books through young adult novels—under all the Children’s Books Group imprints.
This role is part-time, 3 days per week with one day onsite required in NYC.

Job Duties
The Production Editor handles production editorial work from manuscript through bound book in a variety of genres and formats, including picture books, board books, chapter books, middle grade, YA, graphic novels, offsets, and resets.
Copy edits and proofreads cover and jacket copy.
Copy edits, proofreads, checks and slugs page proofs, reviews sketch and art checks, and provides backup checks of final PDFs.
Hires freelance copyeditors, proofreaders, and indexers, and evaluates their work.
Shepherds projects through the editorial/production process, which includes manuscript coding using Word-based proprietary software and text preparation.
Checks all stages of manuscripts, galleys, and PDFs.
Collaborates with editorial, design, and production departments on various tasks.
Follows up with designers and editors to maintain schedules.
Inputs and manages updates in our title management database.
Works comfortably with basic computer programs, including Track Changes in Word and the RSuite content management system.
Prioritizes work appropriately, meeting steady turnaround demands while maintaining very high quality.
Skills & Experience Required
Minimum of 2 years of production editorial experience required, preferably with a quality children’s publisher.
Experienced with production editorial work: copyediting, proofreading, reviewing freelancer work, slugging, project management (progressing workflows among editorial, design, and content management).
Solid copyediting and proofreading skills and in-depth knowledge of CMS.
Exceptional organization skills and attention to detail.
Ability to set priorities under pressure.
Comfortable working within a digital workflow system.
Brings a flexible, upbeat attitude to the job and enjoys working with a like-minded team.
Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat markup.
