The Publications Manager is the creative and strategic force behind LIFE’s Vintage Newsmagazine and LIFE’s Vintage Guide to Housing and Services (Tulsa and Oklahoma City editions). This role brings stories to life—shaping content that informs, inspires, and connects adults age 55+ to the people, services, and experiences that matter most. Blending editorial leadership with marketing strategy, community engagement, advertising collaboration, and subscription growth, the Publications Manager ensures LIFE’s Vintage publications remain trusted, go-to resources across both print and digital platforms.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Set and lead a bold editorial vision that positions LIFE’s Vintage publications as must-read resources for adults 55+, building trust, relevance, and long-term reader loyalty.

Create and execute strategies that grow print subscriptions, including audience-growth campaigns, community partnerships, special promotions, and on-the-ground outreach.

Drive digital subscription growth and online engagement by delivering timely, compelling, and platform-specific content—along with digital-exclusive features that spark interaction and deepen brand loyalty.

Expand the publications’ reach and visibility by securing new distribution and rack placements throughout Northeastern Oklahoma and Oklahoma City, partnering with high-traffic retail, healthcare, business, and community locations.

Collaborate closely with the advertising team to align editorial storytelling with advertising goals, helping maximize advertiser impact, retention, and overall revenue growth through strategic content planning.

Elevate LIFE Senior Services’ mission by spotlighting programs, services, and community impact through thoughtful, mission-aligned storytelling.

Serve as a visible ambassador for LIFE’s Vintage publications—building relationships, representing the brand in the community, and strengthening connections within the aging-services ecosystem.

Recruit, manage, and inspire freelance writers, local journalists, and themed contributors; set clear editorial direction, tone, and visual consistency across all publications.

Manage the editorial budget, freelance contracts, production timelines, and resources to ensure high-quality, on-time delivery.

Uphold brand standards, accessibility best practices, and ethical editorial guidelines across all content and platforms.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in journalism or communications and at least three (3) years of experience planning, writing, editing and overseeing production of published materials. Newspaper or monthly publication and digital publication experience preferred. Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office applications.

Certification, Licenses, Registrations Valid Oklahoma Driver’s License and current auto insurance required.

Skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as an outstanding knowledge of newspaper and magazine (digital and print) publications required. Knowledge of commercial printing process desired. Excellent copy editing skills required. Must be self-directed and resourceful; possess strong project management skills and a proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Physical Requirements Good hearing, visual and speech capability. Ability to frequently lift 30 pounds. Requires sitting, walking, standing, bending, and stair climbing. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT The work environment is an office setting of a non-profit agency providing a variety of services to seniors and their families. The activity level is high and the noise level is moderate. Primary equipment used: computer, copier, printer, phone, and fax.
