Marketing Assistant (Economic Development)
The City of Geneva is a thriving community dedicated to fostering growth, innovation, and opportunity. Our Economic Development Department works to strengthen local businesses, attract new investment, and showcase our community as a great place to live, work, and visit. We are seeking a creative and detail-oriented Marketing Assistant to support the Economic Development Department. This role will play a key part in promoting our municipality to residents, businesses, and visitors through engaging communication campaigns and strategic use of digital platforms.
Examples of Duties
Develop, coordinate, and carry out marketing campaigns to promote Geneva as a visitor destination and business hub.
Create content for multiple platforms, including social media, email, website, and both print and digital promotional and educational materials.
Monitor and analyze information from databases, and third-party resources to identify opportunities for engagement.
Maintain and update public-facing listings, property inventories, maps, and online tools.
Track and report on the performance of communication and engagement efforts, recommending improvements as needed.
Research available properties and prospective businesses to support recruitment efforts.
Assist with digitizing forms, organizing records, developing user guides, and processing financial transactions.
Collaborate with the City's Communications Coordinator on public messaging campaigns and initiatives.
Provide backup support for business and liquor licensing services.
Typical Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field. Four years of experience in marketing, communications, or public relations and at least three years of experience in website design, social media management, and content creation.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, social media platforms, analytic tools, and website content management. Ability to analyze data, generate insights, and adapt strategies. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects. Experience with customer service and administrative support preferred.
Any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential job functions may be considered.
Supplemental Information: The hours for this position are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday‑Friday. The work is primarily performed at City Hall; however, there may be occasions when this position will need to attend meetings or gather information within Geneva, at times outside of the regular workday. The City offers a generous benefit package, which includes ample paid time off as well as competitive health insurance options and participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund program (IMRF). The pay range for this position is $31.31 - $42.26 per hour, with an anticipated starting salary of up to $35 per hour, depending on qualifications.
