Job Summary / Description The dominant #1 station in the 71st largest market in the country seeks a journalist to serve as an MMJ/weekend news anchor. The ideal candidate delivers conversational stories, writes, shoots, edits, and presents compelling live content. A strong ability to generate fresh story ideas daily is essential. Creativity, a robust work ethic, and a passion for journalism are crucial. At least two years of experience working in a television newsroom is preferred.

Duties / Responsibilities

Arrive at the editorial meeting on time with at least two story ideas that could be produced for that day’s newscasts.

Assist with the overall content of news stories within newscasts and contribute innovative ideas to editorial meetings.

Field‑report stories as directed.

Work flexible hours and collaborate effectively with co‑workers.

Perform other duties as assigned to a general assignment reporter.

Develop, investigate, write, report, and edit stories of interest.

Edit packages using the Edius system.

Follow clothing and appearance guidelines.

Work with producers to ensure story accuracy and optimal presentation.

Carry out exclusive stories of interest to local viewers and support the station’s goals.

Perform creative and explanatory live shots and stand‑ups.

Write and post website stories before the television version airs.

Work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Report live on the scene during breaking news.

Conduct field and on‑set interviews.

Develop and maintain sources of information.

Demonstrate sound news judgment in collaboration with others.

Produce research‑driven packages under tight deadlines.

Attend and speak at community service events, schools, and other engagements.

Update social media sites daily, including Facebook, to report stories and interact with viewers.

Maintain knowledge of the viewing area and local history.

Use appropriate lighting to enhance news presentation.

Produce a daily one‑reporter package and one vo/sot/vo or other contribution on a different story.

Provide critique, feedback, and training as part of the job.

Communicate with web staff and other relevant personnel during breaking news.

Perform creative stand‑ups and explanatory live shorts.

Complete other job‑related duties as assigned.

Qualifications / Requirements

At least two years of television reporting experience (preferred).

Experience with ENPS newsroom software and/or Grass Valley non‑linear editing (plus).

Experience with web writing and social media posts (required).

Broadcasting writing experience (required).

Editorial leadership skills (plus).

Familiarity with multiple platforms, including web, mobile, and social networks.

Strong understanding of daily newscast content and collaboration with producers.

Strong initiative, attention to detail, and advanced ethical decision‑making skills (required).

Excellent interview and conversational writing skills.

Excellent live reporting skills and strong on‑camera presentation skills (required).

Basic computer knowledge, including newsroom software (such as ENPS or I‑News), Microsoft applications, and internet use.

Ability to shoot and edit video with digital cameras.

Capability to work independently with limited supervision.

Teamwork skills.

Ability to meet tight deadlines and work well under pressure.

Demonstrated solid news judgment and journalistic ethics.

Maintain professional and ethical conduct at the station and in the community.

Ability to maintain a positive work atmosphere with colleagues, supervisors, and viewers.

Ability to enterprise local hard‑news stories.

Bachelor’s Degree in journalism or related field (required).

Valid driver’s license and insurability (required).
