Reuters is looking for a dynamic and talented Video Journalist to join its New York City bureau. You will need to have a passion for video storytelling, keen to cover breaking and daily news and feature coverage in one of the most dynamic news patches in the world. An expert videographer with a minimum five years' experience, you will have an outstanding shooting and reporting background, with extensive field experience, sharp technical skills and experience working in hostile environments.

You will need to be a proven self-starter with excellent communication skills, an unflappable temperament, and an eye for great visual stories.

The job is likely to involve frequent travel in the U.S.

About The Role

Cover news events in the U.S., including breaking news and feature stories with frequent travel to the scene of events.

Film news events and feature stories using broadcast-quality cameras, gimbals and GoPros, and other camera equipment including drones.

Produce, film, edit videos, and write accurate news stories under time pressure to tight deadlines.

Research and pitch story ideas which travel well for broadcast and digital platforms with a focus on the people affected by events.

Work as part of a team covering events starting from the planning phase through to field work.

A basic understanding of news photography and an ability to take simple still photos.

Work closely with text reporters and photographers daily to produce the stories our clients need.

About You

Have demonstrated ability to shoot with a professional video camera, produce, edit, write, and deliver a story from the field on same-day deadlines.

Be a creative storyteller with a sharp eye for visual news elements and video sequences that reveal a narrative.

Have excellent communication skills.

Have a strong understanding of television editorial technology, field transmission technology for live video and social media newsgathering skills.

Be able to meet tight deadlines and take charge of daily planning.

Respond courageously to major breaking news events, acting quickly and with live news needs in mind.

Thomson Reuters complies with local laws that require upfront disclosure of the expected pay range for a position. The base compensation range varies across locations. Eligible office location(s) for this role include New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Irvine, CA, McLean, VA and Washington, DC. The base compensation range for the role in any of those locations is $72,000 USD - $130,000 USD.
