Job Summary The Executive Communications Director leads the strategic planning, creation, and dissemination of all communications for the Office of the President. This role oversees the production of speeches, press releases, social media, and the university magazine, and coordinates closely with the Communications & Marketing team to ensure brand consistency and maximum visibility.
Responsibilities
Write and execute a comprehensive Strategic Communication Plan that aligns with institutional priorities.
Develop key messages, talking points, social media content, and website updates for the President.
Coordinate with Communications & Marketing to approve video, stories, and other collateral; oversee video production projects.
Serve as executive editor of the Augusta University Magazine, managing budget, story selection, and design.
Create articles, press releases, and other media content; cultivate relationships with local, state, and national media.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Public Affairs, Communications, or a related field.
Seven years of experience in strategic communications and professional writing.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and relevant communication software.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in a related discipline.
Ten or more years of experience in strategic communications at the executive level.
Strong knowledge of digital and interactive media best practices.
Experience in executive speech‑writing and supervising media production teams.
Demonstrated ability to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple concurrent projects.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; keen attention to detail.
Record of integrity and a collaborative leadership style that promotes creativity, teamwork, and strategic thinking.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Proficient in Microsoft Office and related software tools.
Ability to uphold confidentiality and manage sensitive information.
Capability to interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds and expand outreach across multiple audiences.
Shift / Salary / Benefits Shift: Days/M-F (may require occasional off‑hours work). Pay Grade: B16. Salary commensurate with experience within the position range. Benefits include health, dental, and life insurance; retirement plan; paid holidays; tuition assistance for eligible employees; and other standard benefits for full‑time employees.
