Reports to: Communications Manager Pay Rate: $17.31/hour at approximately 20 hours per week (10–25 hours/week as needed) Classification: Part-Time, Non-Exempt Location: Staunton, Virginia (on-site)

Who We Are The American Shakespeare Center (ASC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in Staunton, Virginia, home to the world’s first re-creation of Shakespeare’s indoor theatre, the Blackfriars Playhouse. We produce year-round performances, education programs, and community events that bring people together in shared light—artists and audiences sharing the same illuminated space, responding to the story together in real time.

About the Position You’ll support the daily operations of ASC’s Marketing and Development (now combined as Patron Loyalty Team) departments, helping keep communications, content, and department requests organized and on schedule.

This role focuses on social media scheduling, basic audience engagement, digital asset organization, content support for productions and programs, and managing the Marketing@ inbox.

You’ll work closely with the Communications Manager and Multimedia Content Creator to support communications for Blackfriars Playhouse productions, ASC Theatre Camps & Clubs, and other programs throughout the year. The ideal candidate is organized, reliable, comfortable with digital tools, and excited to support story-driven, community-centered theatre.

Core Responsibilities Social Media Management & Engagement

Schedule posts across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, and LinkedIn using native platform tools.

Monitor comments, messages, and tags; respond in ASC’s voice and redirect patrons’ concerns as needed.

Assist the communication manager and content creator with drafting and proofreading short captions and alt text for scheduled posts.

Gather and organize user-generated content (UGC) and partner mentions.

Track social-related tasks and deadlines using Google Workspace or Asana.

Digital Asset Organization

Organize, tag, rename, and archive photos, videos, graphics, and marketing files following ASC naming conventions.

Maintain seasonal content folders and ensure materials are accessible to teams across ASC, as well as the public image gallery.

Pull visual assets for social media, promotions, and internal communications.

Content Support & Photo/Video Assistance

Assist with seasonal photoshoots and production photography sessions.

Support rehearsal and on-site content capture with the Communications Manager and Multimedia Content Creator.

Assist with archival filming during the opening weekend of each production.

Capture phone-level photos and videos for social media and evergreen content needs.

Support content gathering for Playhouse programming, ASC Theatre Camps & Clubs, and seasonal productions.

Marketing Inbox & Request Coordination

Manage and organize the Marketing@americanshakespearecenter.com inbox using ASC’s established workflow.

Sort and route incoming requests; track deadlines and follow up on outstanding items.

Communicate professionally with internal departments and community partners.

Log and track communication-related requests in Google Workspace or Asana.

Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive donor, financial, and internal communications.

Maintain the Master Marketing & Development Calendar and support the Communications Manager’s scheduling needs, including meeting coordination and tracking deadlines.

Analytics, Planning & Research

Pull monthly social media analytics and prepare simple summary reports.

Assist with documenting seasonal content plans and timelines.

Participate in annual and seasonal content planning sessions; take notes and organize action items.

Conduct light research on marketing, communications, and social media trends.

Monitor local arts, tourism, and community activity to help identify engagement opportunities.

Status: Flexibility: Weekly hours may adjust seasonally depending on sales volume, production cycles, and periods of increased audience activity. Occasional evening or weekend hours required for:

Location:

Based at the Blackfriars Playhouse and the ASC administrative offices in Staunton, Virginia.

Reliable transportation required for local errands and deliveries.

Qualifications Required

Strong organizational and time-management skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

Familiarity with Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and LinkedIn.

Comfort using Canva for basic resizing, templating, and social media assets.

Ability to learn digital tools quickly (Google Workspace, Meta Business Suite, Asana).

High attention to detail in scheduling, proofreading, and file management.

Professional and reliable communication.

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Preferred

Experience in social media support, customer service, office administration, or marketing workflows.

Background in theatre, arts, events, education, or nonprofit environments.

Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (not required)Photoshop, Illustrator, or InDesign.

Experience with digital asset organization or filing systems.

Interest in Shakespeare, theatre, or storytelling.

$17.31 per hour, part-time (average 20 hours/week).

3. Patron Comment Response Write a 2–3 sentence reply to: “I’m thinking about bringing my family to a show. Are your productions good for kids?” Your response should be friendly, welcoming, and informative.
