Department of Media, Communications and Journalism. Since 1928, the Department has prepared thousands of students for professional media careers, offering courses in advertising, broadcast and digital journalism, film, photography, public relations and video production.

Position Summary The department seeks qualified candidates to teach undergraduate courses such as:

MCJ 40: Introduction to Advertising and Public Relations (taught in‑person)

MCJ 106 Publication Design

MCJ 143 Media Sales

MCJ 144 Writing to Influence

MCJ 146 Media Planning

MCJ 155 Non‑profit Public Relations

MCJ 158 Advanced Writing to Influence

MCJ 180 Water and Strategic Media

or other classes identified as needed

Instructor Responsibilities Temporary faculty are responsible for adherence to and implementation of university policies per Academic Policy Manual 306, paragraph 2. Responsibilities include preparation, delivery, proctoring, grading of lectures, office hours, assignments, quizzes, projects, midterm and final exams. All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the semester in the assigned mode (asynchronous, synchronous, in‑person or hybrid).

Conditional Appointment Appointment is contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and subject to order of assignment provisions in the collective bargaining agreement. Appointees must demonstrate eligibility to work in the United States.

Compensation Commensurate with qualifications and experience. Salary ranges per CSU Salary Schedule (Class Code 2358): $5,507–$6,677 per month for full‑time (15 WTUs). Salary adjusted based on WTUs assigned.

Anticipated Semester This pool is continuously open; positions are filled as needed. The pool remains for two academic terms, after which candidates must reapply.

Fall 2025: August 18 2025 – December 22 2025

Spring 2026: January 15 2026 – May 22 2026

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in media, communication, journalism or related field with emphasis in advertising and/or public relations/strategic communications.

Experience

Demonstrated commitment to excellence built on merit, talent, diversity, accessibility, and equal opportunity for all.

Preferred Qualifications

Commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, evidenced by prior teaching experience and evaluations.

Successful undergraduate teaching experience.

PhD or MFA in media, communication, journalism or similar with emphasis in advertising and/or public relations/strategic communication.
