Position Overview TAS Design & Drafting Group reviews customer requirements, specifications, manufacturing constraints and other design inputs to generate comprehensive packaged equipment designs and system layouts. The department develops models and drawings based on the design intent communicated by TAS Project Engineers. These system designs include the appropriate structural, mechanical, electrical, and controls sub‑assemblies. Design outputs are communicated through 3D/CAD drawings for the purchase of incorporated components and manufacture of TAS products.
Key Job Responsibilities
Interpret piping and instrument diagrams, site layouts, equipment layouts, piping plan drawings, process flow diagrams, specifications, bills of materials, and GA drawings with respect to packaged equipment system designs
Successfully create and check reliable 3D models with precision and a high degree of accuracy including mating surfaces, finding correct library parts, performing extrusions, creating assemblies, and exploded view diagrams with BOMs
Consistently produce and check layouts and section views with accurate BOMs, callouts, and dimensions
Review scope documents and specifications for verification of design against the design intent and customer requirements
Successfully execute designs on challenging projects with limited supervision
Conduct model reviews per department processes without assistance
Design and modify equipment systems based on information received from customers while ensuring compliance with all codes and recognized standards
Assist in the development of drafting production schedule and adhere to schedule for different types of drawings while ensuring accuracy of deliverables
Deliver consistent value‑engineered alternatives in designs
Develop, improve, and publish department practices/standards
Consistently execute the design process per all department standards from inception to closure
Support the desired culture and work environment of the department, including mentoring less experienced designers
Build and maintain effective working relationships with other designers and departments
Any other responsibility as assigned by TAS
Job Skills
Capable of producing package/plant designs and layouts with general knowledge of technical applications, maintenance, operation, and clearance constraints of structural, mechanical, controls, and electrical equipment systems
Skilled SolidWorks designer capable of performing all design, and SolidWorks modeling tasks required for delivering production level drawings to purchasing and production departments with limited supervision
Advanced knowledge of reading and interpreting P&IDs
Well versed in codes typically applicable to TAS equipment including NEC, IEC, ASME, AISC, AWS, UMC, OSHA, and building codes
Advanced Microsoft Office suite experience
Excellent interpersonal communication
Education & Training
High school diploma
Direct industry experience
Minimum Requirements
5+ years of mechanical, structural, electrical, and controls design experience relevant to manufacture of TAS products
Advanced experience with SolidWorks is required
Intermediate experience in HVAC, piping design, and industrial plant design
Capable of producing package/plant designs and layouts with basic knowledge of technical applications, maintenance, operation, and clearance constraints of structural, mechanical, controls, and electrical equipment systems
Capable of performing most design and SolidWorks modeling tasks required for delivering production level drawings to purchasing and production departments under direction or supervision of senior designers and engineers
Experience with hosting and participating in design reviews
Capable of performing basic mathematical tasks
Preferred Requirements
Post‑Secondary Drafting and Design Degree
Experience with SolidWorks EPDM
Experience with Infor LN
Additional CAD software proficiency, including AutoCAD and Revit
BIM Experience with Autodesk Construction Cloud or equivalent
Physical Requirements / Work Environment Position is at least 80% to 95% at a desk working with a computer. Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Performs other physical activities including use of fingers, sitting, stooping, bending, crouching, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive motions. Visual acuity requirements include color, depth perception and field of vision necessary to prepare and analyze data and figures, operate a computer terminal, and conduct extensive reading. The incumbent will be subject to inside environmental conditions.
