About Wawner Strategies Wawner Strategies is a Charleston-based strategic communications and PR firm partnering with founder-led brands in hospitality, lifestyle, food & beverage, wellness, and community-driven spaces. We help brands grow visibility and credibility through intentional storytelling, thoughtful media, and creative excellence — never one-size-fits-all tactics.

We believe big-agency thinking should still feel human. And we’re deeply rooted in Charleston — our community, our relationships, and our work.

About the Role We’re seeking a

strong mid-level Communications Strategist

who brings

equal parts strategy, execution, and creative instinct . This is

not an entry-level role . You’ve already done the work — pitching media, managing accounts, shaping narratives, and supporting social storytelling. Now you’re ready to deepen your leadership, sharpen your creative point of view, and grow into a senior role over time.

This position is

Charleston-based

and requires local presence for client meetings, events, and collaboration.

What You’ll Do

Lead day-to-day communications strategy for a portfolio of clients

Develop and execute integrated PR + social storytelling plans

Pitch media proactively and secure earned coverage with intention

Shape founder-led narratives across press, social, partnerships, and thought leadership

Collaborate on social media strategy, content direction, and campaign concepts

Ensure creative excellence across deliverables — messaging, visuals, tone, and storytelling

Manage timelines, deliverables, and client communication with confidence and clarity

Contribute ideas for launches, events, partnerships, and community moments

Mentor interns and junior team members as the team grows

Who You Are

3–6+ years

experience in PR, communications, or brand strategy (agency or in-house)

Proven media pitching experience and coverage wins

Strong understanding of social media strategy — not just posting, but storytelling, positioning, and audience engagement

A sharp creative eye and respect for brand aesthetics, voice, and cohesion

A confident writer and editor who knows how to elevate a story

Organized, proactive, and calm under pressure

Energized by collaboration and long-term partnerships

Excited to grow into senior leadership, not just execute tasks

This role is

not entry-level . Candidates without professional communications experience should apply to the internship position,

listed separately on our jobs page.
