Job Summary
WSP is seeking an
Early Career Lighting Designer
for our Irvine, CA office. This full‑time position provides technical and design support for lighting projects across a variety of project types.
Responsibilities
Provide technical support for project designers, including research, concept development, lighting layout, and architectural coordination.
Conduct research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, equipment, layout, and systems to ensure conformance with applicable standards and codes.
Develop state‑of‑the‑art lighting design, including luminaire and controls specifications, daylighting/harvesting, and space creation that enhances building capabilities, ambiance, safety, and security.
Generate accurate documentation and specifications using electronic systems, renderings, drawings, diagrams, illustrations, spreadsheets, and reports.
Perform lighting calculations, analysis, and rendering studies to inform project decisions.
Complete training on assigned tasks and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Occasional travel may be required.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Lighting Design, Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Interior Design, Theater Production Design or a related field.
0–1 year of relevant post‑education experience.
Excellent research skills with an analytical mindset.
Knowledge of sustainable lighting strategies, principles, and best practices.
Ability to balance lighting aesthetics with client desires and practical concerns.
Familiarity with relevant lighting design and installation codes, regulations, and record‑keeping.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work independently under general supervision and as part of a team.
Basic proficiency with artistic renderings, technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, and design tools.
Familiarity with discipline‑specific design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, Revit, 3DS Max, InDesign).
Track record of upholding workplace safety and compliance with WSP’s policies.
Willingness to work schedules that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
Occasional travel may be required.
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with additional design software such as Sketchup.
Recent graduate in an accredited Architectural Engineering or related program.
1–2 semesters of internship experience in Architectural Lighting Design.
Experience with AGI32 or other lighting calculation tools, Photoshop or rendering software.

Compensation Expected Salary: $62,000 – $87,000 per year.
