in Jamestown, NY is seeking a talented Product Design Technician - Level IV.

Description In this role, you will make an impact by leading with authority and clarity, guiding fellow technicians, ensuring engineering requests are ready, elevating product quality through specialized design knowledge, maintaining drawing and model integrity, mentoring designers, creating assemblies that fit seamlessly, analyzing designs with cutting‑edge tools, and evaluating engineering risks to strengthen product reliability.

Responsibilities

Lead with authority and clarity. Guide Product Design Technicians, prioritize work effectively, and ensure engineering requests are ready for execution.

Apply specialized design knowledge to elevate product quality. Your expertise in creating and maintaining specifications ensures that Cummins products meet or exceed company, industry, and global standards.

Ensure drawing and model integrity from concept to release. Checking models and drawings before release and participating in Drawing Quality Reviews safeguards the accuracy and reliability of every design.

Mentor and train designers across experience levels. Foster growth and consistency by sharing knowledge, coaching others, and reinforcing best practices.

Create assemblies and concept models that ensure seamless fit and function. Collaborate with engineering to generate designs that integrate perfectly with mating parts.

Analyze and validate designs using cutting‑edge tools, reducing errors, improving performance, and streamlining development.

Evaluate engineering risks to strengthen product reliability. Apply structured methods (FMEA, fault‑tree analysis, hazard assessments) to identify potential failure modes and recommend mitigation strategies.

Education & Experience High school diploma or equivalent STEM education is required. A regional certification or a two‑year Associate’s Degree in a relevant field may be required. The position may require licensing for export controls or sanctions compliance. Significantly relevant work experience or specialized skills obtained through education, training, or on‑the‑job experience are also required.

Qualifications Deep mechanical systems knowledge, precise specification development, strong configuration and change management, lifecycle thinking, cross‑functional communication, system‑level design thinking, and commitment to standards drive consistency and quality.

Preferred Transferable Skills

Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.

Project and time management.

Technical writing and communication.

Stakeholder management and cross‑functional teamwork.

Ability to write technical reports, present findings, and communicate with suppliers/customers.

Preferred Hands‑On Mechanical Skills

Experience with measurement tools: calipers, micrometers, CMMs.

Teardown, assembly/disassembly, and inspection of mechanical components.

Drafting/GD&T skills.

Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as machining, casting, welding, forming.

Practical troubleshooting of equipment, test rigs, or prototypes.

Compensation Minimum salary: $30,770; maximum salary: $46,150. Final offer is based on qualifications and experience.
