Experienced Engineering Technician – US Navy Support
Serco is hiring an Experienced Engineering Technician to support U.S. Navy ships in Newport News, VA. The role involves cabling, equipment, and C5ISR system installations, providing manual labor and general maintenance for shipboard critical missions.
Responsibilities
Perform troubleshooting and correct malfunctions.
Conduct tests or experiments, adjust test setups, select and operate standard test equipment, and record test data.
Perform electrical work on ships, boats, and marine equipment, repairing wiring and restoring power to engines and navigation systems.
Gather and maintain engineering records, compute data using specified formulas, and plot data and simple curves.
Operate and adjust simple test equipment, recording data for routine tasks such as tensile or hardness tests.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Ability to obtain and maintain an active DoD Secret clearance.
Ability to access shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS) and pass background investigation and drug screening.
OSHA 10 certification.
Respirator qualification and continuous use of PPE.
Experience in electrical work in a related field and shipboard experience.
A2 years of combined experience in:
Fiber optic, RJ‑45, DB type connectors
Reading drawings (Tradesman level)
QCI instruction of lower techs
Implement safety program/SRAR Qual/CP
Preliminary QA testing, MCTs, space closeouts
Multipin competency
Electrical testing requirements (e.g., ground checks, RSPT testing)
Layout & cutting of electrical enclosures, electrical hook‑ups, meter knowledge
Reading drawings (Apprentice level)
Band/pack MCTs/RISE
Layout & mount small equipment as needed
Basic knowledge of tools, QA documents, meter, and safety procedures
Active participation in safety surveillance & walk‑throughs
Familiarization with NAVSEA concepts and procedures for electrical repair, fabrication, and installation.
Ability to work in high heat spaces, climb shipyard dry dock stairs/ladders, kneel below decks, and lift up to 50 pounds.
Strong safety orientation.
Willingness to travel up to 10% to various work sites.
Ability to travel to Newport News, VA.
Additional Desired Experience and Skills
Active DoD Secret clearance.
OSHA certification.
Fiber optic certification.
