Our customer, an
American multinational mass media company , is seeking a music attorney to join its Music Business & Legal Affairs department on a temporary basis, with the possibility of extension, reporting to the Vice President of Music Business & Legal Affairs.
Role Purpose The Music Business and Legal affairs team is responsible for advising the various clients across the company, including Sports and Entertainment, on a wide array of media, music and entertainment issues.
Locations Los Angeles, California, USA / San Francisco, California, USA (Hybrid)
Duration 6 Months (with the potential for extension)
Job Duties
Negotiate, draft, review and analyze music licensing agreements to maintain consistent terms of use across multiple business divisions and platforms.
Negotiate, draft, review, and analyze music agreements for songwriters, performer, producers, mixers, and other talent.
Establish procedures and maintain status reports respecting music licenses and engagements for various sports and entertainment programs.
Provide accurate and timely advice to client groups - including production, marketing, and digital groups- regarding music rights, clearances, union and society issues respecting the use of content on their platforms.
Assist with soundtrack distribution agreements and related royalty obligations.
Provide general advice and support concerning intellectual property rights, music publishing and royalty collection matters.
Maintain the integrity of business practices and policies.
Basic Requirements
JD or LLM degree from an accredited law school
Member of the California State Bar, or willingness and qualification to be registered in-house counsel in California
Minimum of 2 years of experience as counsel in a film/tv music business affairs department or 1 year of full time music law experience at a law firm
A solid understanding of the film/tv music business, including the roles of music publishers, labels, and collection societies.
Strong background in the area of copyright law (US and foreign) and intellectual property matters
Desired Characteristics

Additional Requirements
Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States
This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week in Century City, CA offices
