Design Technician - Land Development
Join our Columbus, Ohio (OH) office as part of the Development Services/Land Development team. The role requires a Civil Operator or Designer with 6+ years of experience.
Overview We are looking for a qualified civil operator or designer to join our Development Services/Land Development team, based at our Columbus, Ohio office. The candidate should have 6+ years of experience performing drafting, plan preparation, and design tasks.
Responsibilities
Implement and manage drafting and plan preparation standards
Develop technical drawings and plans
Make and quality check drawings and plans of substantial complexity, performing multifaceted calculations as needed
Perform day-to-day tasks with minimal supervision
Apply engineering principles and suggest design changes
Maintain the drawing database
Supervise and train CAD staff
Coordinate work activities to maintain schedules and ensure quality control
Develop familiarity with Kimley-Horn’s practices, procedures, and standards
Qualifications
6+ years of relevant experience
High school diploma or equivalent (associate’s degree preferred)
Ability to set up and manage printing/plotting settings
Advanced knowledge and proficiency in Autodesk or Bentley products
Strong work ethic, interpersonal communication/writing skills and desire to learn
Ability to work independently and with a team
Willingness to mentor and teach others
Detail oriented, professional attitude, good communication, team player, self‑starter
