Job Description
Creates technical information to support the development of Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs) for the AN/SQQ-89 Sonar Set. Performs related tasks to support the development of auxiliary equipment and technical documentation. Develops technical procedures, user and service manuals, and related technical publications. Communicates technical data clearly and effectively to a wide range of audiences. Captures and documents operational and maintenance related information to support the introduction of new technology to the U.S. Navy fleet.
Develops technical content in multiple disciplines including general descriptions, controls and indicators, functional description, maintenance procedures, system operation descriptions, LAN operation and troubleshooting, system troubleshooting, and corrective maintenance procedures.
Required Skills
Work closely with Logisticians and other Tech Writers as the SQQ-89A(V) 15 SME to support the creation of technical data.
Provide subject matter expertise in the creation of templates, describing complex and technical topics in a clear, concise, and accurate manner.
Lead review of documentation as required.
Provide quality assessment of technical manuals delivered to U.S. Navy ships.
Write using clear and concise language that adheres to customer‑established standards and conventions. Knowledge of the English language, grammar, usage, and composition.
Excellent organizational skills.
Acquire and verify subject matter content by interviewing workers, observing production methods, and referring to blueprints, sketches, engineering drawings, notes, manuals, and similar publications.
Write technical content for procedure manuals and related technical publications that describe the operation, and maintenance of electronic, electrical, and mechanical equipment.
Define required graphics, photographs, tables, figures, and engineering drawings and/or create graphic materials using applications such as PowerPoint and Photoshop.
Perform review and quality assurance tasks to support the development of technical documentation for U.S. Navy ships.
Highly Desirable Skills
A thorough understanding of AN/SQQ-89(V) system operations and system functional segments.
Knowledge of sonar tactical equipment.
Familiarity with system LAN operation and administration.
Experience with fault detection, isolation, and localization.
Experience with remove and replace procedures.
Experience with HTML, XML, and content management systems.
Experience utilizing products and tools for tablet delivery.
Familiarity with MS Office Suite.
Experience with NAVSEA forward fit and back fit AN/SQQ-89A(V)15 sonar system equipment, including SIPS, (V)15, AN/SQQ-28, AN/SQR-19, MK116, and AN/SQS-53C or ARCI.
Experience with technical manual development for network‑based systems.
Additional Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline or U.S. Navy sonar equivalent experience.
Must be able to obtain and keep a DoD Secret Clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
At least 6 years of AN/SQQ-89(V) working experience in both operations and maintenance.
Travel may be required for this position.
