Water/Wastewater EIT / Designer
– Join the HDR team as a Water/Wastewater Engineer in Training (EIT) or Designer. As part of our Water Business Group, you will help shape how communities manage water for generations to come. Your work will directly support public health, environmental sustainability, and infrastructure resilience through safe drinking water, wastewater treatment, and flood control. This role offers an opportunity to lead change, drive progress, and leave a lasting legacy.
Responsibilities
Create planning level, preliminary, and detailed designs of water‑focused systems under instruction from a Project Engineer or responsible charge.
Prepare deliverables for water‑or‑water‑resources focused systems, write specifications, conduct analysis and modeling, produce study‑level reports, determine appropriate design methods, size and select equipment, and work directly with clients to deliver an outstanding experience.
Perform as part of a quality assurance team and conduct quality‑control reviews of completed deliverables.
Perform other duties as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering (or related field) preferred.
Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate.
Candidate without EIT will be placed into a Design Coordinator job code and will be expected to obtain EIT for career progression.
Water / Wastewater / Water resources project experience, focused on water/wastewater treatment, pump stations, pipelines, or water resources/stormwater preferred.
Experience in hydrology and hydraulics applications, the design and analysis of storm‑water management facilities, storm sewers and watersheds preferred.
Knowledge and experience in watershed management including erosion control, water quality, drainage collection system design, storm‑water BMP design, and natural channel design preferred.
Demonstrated experience in hydrologic/hydraulic modeling for storm, sanitary, water distribution systems using software such as HEC‑RAS, HEC‑HMS, SWMM, HydraFlow, or other similar models preferred.
Local candidates preferred.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent field.
Interest or experience analyzing and designing water‑focused systems.
Experience with production, simulation, and automation such as BIM systems, numerical modeling platforms, and other production tools.
Microsoft Office experience.
Must be able to work in a team environment.
