Job Synopsis
A Residential Landscape Designer specializes in creating customized outdoor living spaces for private homes.
Key responsibilities include
site analysis, concept development, drafting detailed plans, selecting appropriate plants and materials, and coordinating with contractors during installation. A strong understanding of horticulture, design principles, and sustainable landscaping practices is essential. The designer ensures that each residential project enhances curb appeal, usability, and property value while aligning with environmental considerations.
Job Qualifications
Degree or diploma in Landscape Design, Horticulture, or related field.
3+ years of experience in residential landscape design or a closely related role.
Strong plant knowledge and an eye for composition, color, and seasonal interest.
Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, Dynascape, Lumion, or similar tools.
Experience creating hand-drawn sketches is a plus.
Excellent interpersonal skills and a client-centered approach.
Ability to manage multiple projects and timelines independently.
Portfolio of residential design work is preferred.
Job Responsibilities
Collaborate with clients to understand their vision, preferences, lifestyle, and budget.
Develop customized landscape designs that may include plantings, patios, outdoor kitchens, pools, fire pits, walkways, lighting, water features, and more.
Conduct site visits and assessments to gather measurements, photographs, and site conditions.
Produce detailed conceptual and final design drawings, including layout plans, planting schemes, hardscape details, and 3D renderings.
Present design proposals to clients and revise plans based on feedback.
Select appropriate plants and materials based on site conditions, aesthetic goals, and maintenance requirements.
Coordinate with in-house teams, contractors, and vendors to ensure smooth project execution.
Prepare project budgets, material lists, and construction documentation.
Stay up to date with current trends in residential landscape design, outdoor living, and sustainable practices.
Demonstrate strong professional relationships in business settings.
Exhibit servant‑leadership qualities and show a willingness to help out wherever help is needed.
