Technical Writer I (Manufacturing/Construction)
Job Summary: This role supports PowerSecure’s product line through the development and updates of technical support manuals, sales support materials, submittals, specifications, cut sheets, field installation manuals, operation & maintenance manuals, and maintaining an active repository. The writer will determine business and manufacturing processes through communication with stakeholders to produce informative documentation that establishes repeatable standards and results.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum 1‑2 years’ experience in technical writing.
Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or English with an emphasis on writing.
Experience in construction, manufacturing, and power systems preferred.
Strong working knowledge of MS Office products, especially Teams, Word, and Excel.
Knowledge and use of Adobe products preferred, specifically InDesign and Illustrator.
Familiarity with Vault and AutoCAD.
Ability to understand and explain customer specifications, mechanical and electrical engineer documents, industry safety standards, and a wide range of PowerSecure manuals.
Ability to research, comprehend, and retain diverse product specifications and procedures to produce accurate documents within a quick timeframe.
View projects from a broad perspective and define how and where details need to be presented.
Demonstrate excellent communication skills across multiple mediums.
Ask perceptive questions and listen “between the lines” to obtain necessary information and resolve issues.
Understand and comprehend different thought patterns.
Quickly adapt to various computer software programs.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Consult with subject matter experts and content providers to ensure a common understanding of policies and procedures.
Collaborate closely with various departments to obtain research materials and product specifications ensuring the most up‑to‑date information is published.
Understand the concept of a microgrid and how each component works within the system.
Compose equipment systems descriptions for all PowerSecure products.
Create operation & maintenance, installation manuals, and update sales support documentation.
Efficiently gather information from vendor manuals to produce an easy‑to‑follow procedural guide with process flows for internal or external use.
Update safety standards, templates, and repository annually.
Review and maintain active indexing of repository materials.
Develop and layout instructional manuals for all products or departments.
Compose submittal documents for PowerSecure projects.
Perform quality checks to ensure consistency, clarity, and compliance.
Participate in team meetings to review documentation progress and receive feedback.
Up to 20% of travel.
Working Conditions
Required to work on a computer for extended periods, learning in a hands‑on environment, and lift 40 lbs.; may include standing and walking on manufacturing floors while wearing PPE or at active job sites.
Work can take place remotely, in an office, on the manufacturing floor, and at active job sites; possible exposure to weather, extreme heat or cold, noise, toxic or caustic chemicals, wet and/or humid conditions, vibrations, enclosed/tight spaces, and proximity to moving mechanical parts.
